oh ?

I thought it was at the point where he will die within the next couple of hours, but hasn't quite yet. None of google's news updates have confirmed his death.

sigh

Hmm - I looked on cnn.com and they just say that'she's in deteriating condition and his organs are shutting down. On the tv cnn had on the bottom that the vatican confirmed his death. Maybe it was a false report or I read it wrong.

More like 26 and a half years. The Pope accomplished quite a lot during that time. Hope the next Pope can continue in his footsteps.

I'm sorry for all those of you, to whom the pope meant a lot - I know there's a lot of you out there.

It's a sad loose for us but, on the other hand, he had such a full life, so much similar to the ways of Christ, that I feel quite happy he's finally reached its end and is now is the company of his Love.

'Tis a sad loss indeed. A Pope that helped to bring down the Soviet Union; lived through the destruction of Poland by the Germans, (during which he saw many of his childhood jewish friends shown Nazi hospitality); helped to bring the word of Christ to billions of faithful, and helped the struggle for peace in the world more than any other. Not to bad for the son of a peasant soldier from Poland...

Tradition states that college of Cardinals, usually around 120 in all, vote in the Vatican one of their number to the become Pontifex Maximus, or basically the new Pope. Generally this takes about 15 days once the Cardinals are gathered.

And I doubt it will be a Frenchman, nor one of the Irish (to my lasting regret). An age rule applies, which isn't a bad thing, give the general age of the various Cardinals is around 75.

Requiescat in pace, John Paul II.

Aye, it's a very sad loss.

I was lucky enough to get to sing at the requiem mass for him at my parish and found something out that I'd never known before--our priest actually spoke with the Pope and the permission for our parish came straight from him!

Our priest is one of the Anglican ministers who became a catholic priest, and at the same time as he sent in his 'resume' he also asked that he be allowed to start his own parish. Apparently the request was so strange that it ended up on the Pope's desk.

Anyways. It's so sad to lose him, but on the other hand I guess it's a little exciting that I'm about to get to see what it's like when a new pope is elected.
