Murray was impressive. That's about all I've been able to see yesterday. Almost missed our Borlée-twins in the 400m semifinale. Both made it in the finale! Going to be exciting!

Just qualifying for three olympics in a row is an amazing accomplishment. So winning gold at all three is mind boggling. As ditzy as they come off sometimes they clearly are driven and enormously talented to beat the best teams in the world for so many years. And in those 3 olympics they have only lost ONE set.

So what's up with the 400m relay? I hear South Africa is going to the finale, despite one of the team falling and not finishing in the semi-finale. Seems odd, but then Pistorius is running for South Africa, and I suppose the organisation really wanted Bladerunner in the finale. To be fair, I too have been curious to see just how an athlete with blades can be included in a relay. Might be interesting to watch.

Norway's Women's Handball team is going to the finale tomorrow!
I might listen to it on the radio ... Edit: And it turned out to be a great success

I don't care what people say - I enjoyed the closing ceremony thoroughly!

What did the people say, then?
I quite enjoyed it too. Felt a bit cheated at first with only the very small Bohemian Rhapsody sound bite. How can you not have We Will Rock You if you want the Closing Ceremony to be a party? But then came the Mercury video, which was a really nice touch, I thought. I bet he would have loved it.

Yep, it was good- worried a bit about Pete Townshend dislocating his shoulder while doing his whirlwind move.
And the U.S. only beating Spain by 7 in men's basketball- still the best, but the rest are catching up.

*shakes head* I really wish rock music had not become so ubiquitous that it took over ceremonial events

I'm still miffed that they didn't have more Dr Who .... Just one quick sound bite of the Tardis noise ...

I think they put too much importance in what teenagers and other young people want to hear and too little on grown ups. Endless repetion of insipid lyrics is not singing in my opinion, but I suppose its easier to stupidify the entire audience. What of the treasure trove of wonderful British music of yore. Why couldnt they have used those as a musical component in this momentous event? All the "talk" of the history of the UK and nothing about the really good old days in entertainment.

I guess they thought that would send everyone to sleep!
Good shout re: Dr Who The production was far from mindless IMO although it did veer into cringe territory a few times. Somebody please lock Jessy J in a crate and put her on a ship to somewhere else. But it was done with humour and confidence, and some sly little pointers here and there. The bit where Indian dancers interrupted Eric Idle's piece was effectively calling our prime minister a "piece of sh*t". |

There was quite a bit of traditional music in the Opening Ceremony. I can understand why they'd want the Closing Ceremony to be a bit more modern. Still, can't go much more traditional than the European Hymn.
Loved to see Eric Idle included, which was practically the best bit. Queen, The Who, Bowie and some John Lennon seem to fit very well for the occasion, if you asked me. Heck, I even liked the octopus, they never get any love. But who the hell is One Direction?
