the Ivy League??? You've gotta be kidding me. Which institution, I'm very curious. I'd honestly love to research this a little on my own, it's fascinating to me what can be considered "good" or "bad" by those "in the know", especially venerable leaders of education. Can you point me to some sources?

Well Cornell and Dartmouth for starters. And i dare say pretty much every Ivy would probably use it when dicussing film and/or arthurian legends. Its considered such a well known well done classic source. Do some simple web searches and youll see what I mean.

Cowboy Bebop
Muppet Movie, actually all Muppet movies
Holy Grail

It's all I can think of at the moment!

it is hard to say what is the best film of all time - you could look at that list of "top 100 films" - i forget who even put that out.

they have Citizen Kane as #1, right? It is ok..... not my best. I don't like the movies on that list - seen like 30 out of the 100, but only a few actually deserve to be there.

I have enjoyed quite a few films over the years - but I can't think of all the ones that I really like now. I know, how can I think it to be one of the best films ever and not remember it at the moment? I don't know.

Some favs currently on my mind:
-Star Wars original trilogy
-Indiana Jones trilogy
-Star Trek 2, 4, 6, 8

I think Excalibur's great too. I don't think it's my favourite film though...

It's so hard to pick just one. I change my mind pretty much all the time like most people. However consistent favourites of mine are Predator, The Count of Monte Cristo, Collateral and Marathon Man. If I had to choose right now though it would be The Count of Monte Cristo. Such a good film!

River Runs Through it.

Since the thread is asking for #1 and not a list, I won't go on. I like movies that tend to be termed, "Slice of Life" types. Fiction based upon Fact. I get more out of it or something.

Saw River Runs Through it in 1992 in Cape May, NJ . . . I was the only one in the theatre...made me miss the Pacific Northwest sooooo bad. I blew off a chance to "move up in the world" to return back home to Oregon....I was soooo homesick.

Citizen Kane is really a fine film -- very ground-breaking cinematography, excellent performances by classic actors.

But if were talking favorites that happen to be pretty good -- Field of Dreams. I experience all sorts of emotions when watching it, every time I watch it. Also, many good performances and a very good script.

Also some of my pretty good favorites:

The Wizard of Oz
Doctor Zhivago
Gone With the Wind
Chicken Run (so underrated!)
Finding Nemo
The Lion King
Being John Malkovich
Warner Brothers cartoons directed by Chuck Jones!!!!
The Muppet Movie
Episodes IV, V, and VI of Star Wars

Then we get into the category of "Guilty Pleasures" movies like --

Titanic (Cameron)
LotR trilogy
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (best chick flick ever!)

I also recently saw Love, Actually and liked it a lot, but don't know if it's a favorite yet because I've just seen it once.
