I'll share a great piece of literature that I have in my hot little hands, similar to the bit I shared on the dinosaur thread...

Never Put a Frog in the Kitchen Sink
by Jim Post

Never put a frog in the kitchen sink,
the kitchen sink, the kitchen sink,
Never put a frog in the kitchen sink,
Or your mother's gonna yell ...

"Who put a frog in the kitchen sink?
The kitchen sink, the kitchen sink,
Who put a frog in the kitchen sink?"
Your mother's gonna yell.

Never put a frog in your daddy's shoe,
Your daddy's shoe, your daddy's shoe,
Never put a frog in your daddy's shoe,
Or your daddy's gonna yell...

"Who put a slimy frog in my shoe?
In my shoe, in my shoe,
Who put a slimy frog in my shoe?"
Your daddy's gonna yell.

Never put a frog in your sister's bed,
Your sister's bed, your sister's bed,
Never put a frog in your sister's bed,
Or your sister's gonna yell ...

"Who put a warty frog in my bed?
In my bed, in my bed?
Who put a warty frog in my bed?"
Your sister's gonna yell.

[and also your brother's shorts, your Sugar Pops, the baby's bottle, your teacher's desk, the hamster cage, your best friend's lunch, the doggie's bowl, your granny's purse, and it ends up "Never kiss a frog on his sticky lips ... Or you may become a frog!

(isn't literature wonderful? )

Indeed :

A Frog's Fate
by Christina Rossetti

Contemptuous of his home beyond
The village and the village-pond,
A large-souled Frog who spurned each byeway
Hopped along the imperial highway.

Nor grunting pig nor barking dog
Could disconcert so great a Frog.
The morning dew was lingering yet,
His sides to cool, his tongue to wet:
The night-dew, when the night should come,
A travelled Frog would send him home.

Not so, alas! The wayside grass
Sees him no more: not so, alas!
A broad-wheeled waggon unawares
Ran him down, his joys, his cares.
From dying choke one feeble croak
The Frog's perpetual silence broke: -
"Ye buoyant Frogs, ye great and small,
Even I am mortal after all!
My road to fame turns out a wry way;
I perish on the hideous highway;
Oh for my old familiar byeway!"

The choking Frog sobbed and was gone;
The Waggoner strode whistling on.
Unconscious of the carnage done,
Whistling that Waggoner strode on -
Whistling (it may have happened so)
"A froggy would a-wooing go."
A hypothetic frog trolled he,
Obtuse to a reality.

O rich and poor, O great and small,
Such oversights beset us all.
The mangled Frog abides incog,
The uninteresting actual frog:
The hypothetic frog alone
Is the one frog we dwell upon.

For centuries to come, when not a soul

When England is not England, when mankind
Has blown himself to pieces. Still the sea,
Consolingly disastrous, will return
While the strange starfish, hugely magnified,
Waits in the jewelled basin of a pool.

Apart from the fact that frogs have no warts (the toads have gotten their share) that's a nice song.

All those songs reminds me of how, when I was looking for frog-info for my thesis last year in on-line library-catalogs, my search always came up with books of children-songs that just happened to have the word 'frog' in their title!

great poem, sun-star!

"The mangled Frog abides incog ... "

Frogs are fun I can see why your search would turn up so many children's songs, Eärniel! (altho this prob. isn't the direction you wanted the thread to go, but when the Halfelven Queen of Frog - er, Rabbit Trails shows up, you never know what's gonna happen! )

Well frankly, I'm glad it has gotten as far as this so far. I wasn't expecting anyone to go discussing in-depth frog-science with me. (although I wouldn't say no to that.) It's nice to just talk about frogs, even with poems and children-songs.

Although some froggy-rabbit trails so far are...more unexpected than others.

I loved that Rossetti poem, Sun-Star. You guys, frogs and tiny lizards and thousands of beautiful, delicate little species are dying out on this planet, and it is no joke, it is terrible. It is heartbreaking.

That first picture you posted, Lotesse, reminds me of a certain quote I came across once on the internet: "I don't believe in princes, I believe in frogs."

Very cute frog! Reminds me of the ones I saw in Corsica. One moment my mum and I are walking alongside a large lake and these little things keep jumping away from where we put our feet. Grasshoppers we thought them to be until I knelt down and noticed they were these tiny tiny frogs! Here's a photo of one on my hand.
