Eh, not as hard as I'd thought. I really haven't written much, my style is short and sweet, but edit it to death. This was completely different than I normally do, and I expected it to be more difficult.

*bumpidy*
I saw Nerdy mention it in the happy thread and thought it'd be nice to bump this thread. So, is anyone planning on participating this year? Any ideas on what you're going to start? I have thought about it but 50 000 words is kinda steep so I'm thinking I'd work out my own terms.

I want to do it, but I can't because I have the novel I am writing and 2 others floating around my mind...must get one of them fully out.
So instead my target is to finish novel 1 by the end of November. It's at approx 75,000 words already, and has 5 chapters to go. It is do-able. If only I wasn't working 2 jobs as well...

I managed to break my computer last night, so I think it won't work that well..
Good luck to all those who try, though!

Noone posted in this thread last year, but as I have just joined up for another year at NaNoWriMo, I decided to bump it for 2008
I've only participated twice, writing less than 8000 words in 2004 (failing miserably ), and then winning (with 51 000 words) in 2007 The NaNoWriMo site has got a forum where people can discuss things and encourage each other - at the moment some are offering calendar wallpapers with the daily word count goal, to make it easier for us to follow our word count requirements. I thought I would link to one of them - here - (for Twilight lovers especially ).

I think I might do my NaNoWriMo 'light' version again: pick one of the short stories I'm working on and type the full first draft in one month. That'll be challenging enough for me. I'm not up to novel-length anyway.

I won't qualify as a winner, but I'm welcome to use the fora and participate as an ordinary participant. Lots of the Rebels are writing other things than novels.

There's a rebel movement within NaNoWriMo? How terribly cute. I've never bothered to register for NaNoWriMo in previous years.

I'm playing by the rules this year. In other words I wish November would hurry up and get here so I can start. I have an idea of what to do now.

You know, I think I might try this. I haven't written in a while, but maybe I should.

I think it's quite decent of him to allow us to be as much part of the NaNo writing community as those who play strictly by the rules. He admits that some of the rules are arbitrary anyway - so he allows that, rather than changing the rules

I was all fired up to participate, but I don't think it's gonna happen now. I might give it a shot, because I have a story already outlined and ready to write (I got it ready for the purpose of doing NWM this year) but... ergh... :-/. We'll see. I really need to be focusing on school.

Hey, November is here! I started my story a few minutes ago this morning. I think it'll be fun if I don't shoot for greatness. I'll be content to just get a coherent story out. I think this is fun so far.

And we're nearly at the end of November - I didn't write as much as I had planned this month, so I wouldn't be a winner this year even if I had followed the rules strictly.
Are any Mooters desperately typing in their last three thousand words this weekend?

I am. I reached the end of the story around 40,000. I filled in some things in the middle of the story, but for the remaining words, I'm just writing a really long epilogue of silly stories. :] I'm at 41.5k or so today.

There are still a few loose knots I have yet to tie, but I'm not going to rush these last two days.
I didn't write as much as I hoped in terms of words, but I finished far more than I had planned. Aside from the RPG's, I finished an entire short story, which is far quicker than my usual pace, wrote a draft of another, gave a third story a final edit and worked on a difficult scene in a fourth. Originally I had planned to finish the entire draft of the fourth one this month, but I got distracted by the others. (And I worked on the plot of a fifth unwritten one in my head, but that doesn't count for NaNoWriMo. ) It's been a rather exhausting month this way, but pushing yourself is part of the deal of NaNoWriMo.

Yeah. I don't really like the idea of rushing, so I still write at my normal pace, but just a lot more often. Anyway though, it still better to get something out that you can work with later, no matter how imperfect it is now.
I am satisfied with my story now (besides for the tricky scenes that I more or less skipped for now), so I'm not going to extend it unnecessarily, but I am also very competitive and I hate to lose, so I'm going to win one way or another. |

Good for you! You can do it! Just put in whatever comes into your head, whether you'll remove it again on Monday or not
