In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.' 'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh. So far, I havent killed anyone. It would be nice if it was always black and white, but we are all bound by certain rules (like in the Samuel L. Jackson movie "Rules of Engagement". Sometimes the speed and stress of combat makes one trigger happy, but you have to have self control and stay aware of whats going on around you. Otherwise, you might be on a raid and bust into a room and just start blazing, even though the "guy with a gun" was just an old woman with a baby. Now, that hasnt happened to us, we are all trained (over and over and over) to properly ID targets, and it does pay off.
[edit] sorry, I didnt read back far enough. Yup, the media does blow it all out, but you are right, things are getting better. Even the majority of the Iraqi people (in our sector) seem to appriciate what were doing. Its cool. FUBAR sometimes, BOHICA others

FUBAR is "something-ed up beyond all recognition", and BOHICA is "bend over here it comes again" Old military acronyms for the way things usually go.

Yeah, just like that, leaning more towards SNAFU (AWOL is an actuall army term, the others are just what GI's came up with a while back)

Its cool, Coney, the question really didnt bother me. In a clear war, I would imagine that not too much thought needs to go into pulling the trigger, but on a mission like this, unless its an obviuos threat, we really cant shoot. The ROE got tighter as the time went on, and once you do pull that trigger, you cant take it back. But, if I need to shoot someone, I will.

Add me to your list, too! When I posted your pic in the Pic thread, I was wondering if that was a current pic, and if you were posted in Iraq.
I imagine most people don't like to kill other people. Sadaam and his sons were certainly exceptions, and I'm SO glad they were stopped. I wonder how many people they tortured and put to death?

Rian: It seems according to the Iraqi people we talk to, that they also are glad that Ol' Saddam and his sons are gone, apparently they tortured and killed a heck of a lot of people.
Coney II: I actually did do some photocopying today. Interesting you should say...
