hm... it would have to be something that was Silm based... and not Sauron, considering what he did to Finrod... the Balrog, maybe.

Oh! My best friend thinks Gollum is the best character, good or bad! And the scary thing is, that's the truth!

Smaug, definitely, but as the bad guy is supposed to be in LOTR...
Well, it's not really a guy, and it's not really bad, but I really like the oliphants...they were used for an evil purpose, and it makes me cry. |

Denethor, cause his really creepy and he totally looses it at the end - he makes an excellent bad guy.
And yes, he must qualify an one of the bad guys, even if it is just for wanting to burn his son alive. |

But he didn't think he was alive. I don't think Denethor classifies as a bad guy. He wasn't really bad he was just confused and had beentaken advantage of by Sauron.

Yes he was taken advantage of, but that means he was made one of the bad guys. He deserted his people when they needed him and (can't remember but I think) he refused to listen when they told him Faramir was still alive and hence he tried to burn him. And he was the cause for a lot of trouble and pain in Gondor.

I just don't want to think of Denethor as a bad guy. He's one of those people that, after they're dead, you remember them when they were wise and strong.

Yeah, and at that point, he was no longer mentally stable in any respect, so it's hard to say that he might have acted differently if the others had also told him his son was still living. All that was real to him was what his mind fatalisticlly told him must be true.

It doesn't make a difference that he was psyco. He still didn't do anything good and he wasn't a good man.

I could have sworn there was a thread about that somewhere, but I can't find it. Some consider the Ring a character. I was fascinated by it also. My first avatar was a picture of it and the words "This little thing?"
Welcome to the Moot!

It should be a releif for you to know I dismiss all spoilers I accidently come across, since chances are you have no idea what you're talking about anyway.
Did you notice I'm not in stealth mode anymore? My favorite baddie is Saruman. He must have made the funniest shocked face in the book when Gandalf flew away from his tower. Plus he was most complex as Nurv said. Don't you think if Saruman's a bad guy Denethor should be too? That's the only role he played in LotR, despite how unfortunately his mind was seized from him by Sauron.
