I've never read any of the Sim books so my answer can only be from LotR or the Hobbit. I would say Aragorn or Gandalf or Legolas because they are all smart and could save me (I would probably be to shocked to do any thing except some weak attempts to save my self. Where it seems like Gandalf, Legolas and Aragorn could come close to dying any day and they still lived sooo.......)

Nah it would have to be Gandalf for me.........Either him or Bombadil
good point, I never thought of him. Gandalf is 'quick to anger' so either Quickbeam or Entwives

Well, either I need to brush up on my Silmarillian, or Melkor was never a Vala, just the most powerful Ainu in the beginning.

Weren't the Valar the fourteen (er, fifteen) most powerful Ainu anyway? And Melkor was counted among them for a while? Something like that. I think I'll have to go look it up again, eh?

Melkor was orignally one of the Valar, but after his descension, he was cast out from the order.

From the Silmarillion: Valaquenta:
Quote:
Melkor is counted no longer among the Valar, and his name is not spoken upon Earth.
This implies that he was indeed once counted as one of them.

The same is more explicitly stated here:
Quote:
Among them Nine were of chief power and reverence; but one is removed from their number, and Eight remain, the Aratar, the High Ones of Arda...

Yes thanks for setting Anduril straight lol you beat me to my explanation, hehe. I will post it anyway....

"Said to be the mightiest dweller in Arda, Melkor was of the same order of the Valar and equal in power to Manwë himself, who was Melkor's brother in the mind of Ilúvatar. While the Valar descended into Arda to order and govern wisely, though, Melkor sought power for himself alone, and sought to bend all things to his own will.

All that the Valar made, Melkor looked to destroy; long before the Elves awoke, he threw down the Lamps of the Valar, destroying their dwelling in Almaren. They removed to Valinor, and fearing for the coming Elves, made war on Melkor and imprisoned him for three ages. By the time he was released, the Elves had come to Valinor; Melkor turned back to his evil ways; slaying Finwë and stealing the Silmarils, he destroyed the Two Trees of Valinor and fled back to his ancient fortress of Angband in the north of Middle-earth." From Encylopedia of Arda, plus as stated above it is in the Silmarillion.

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

Okay, let's see what you've got:
Quote:
More:
"Said to be the mightiest dweller in Arda, Melkor was of the same order of the Valar and equal in power to Manwë himself, who was Melkor's brother in the mind of Ilúvatar. While the Valar descended into Arda to order and govern wisely, though, Melkor sought power for himself alone, and sought to bend all things to his own will.

From Encylopedia of Arda, plus as stated above it is in the Silmarillion.
Now now, don't be too impressed with yourself. I'll take your first paragraph as your argument, but the second makes too much of an effort to differentiate between the Valar on one hand, and Melkor on the other. Also, you neglected to close the quotation marks. This is a sign of forthcoming terror and malice.

For obvious reasons you would want gandalf at your side but for some reason i think i would pick Tour above them all he had something special about him. Figolofin is also a good choice Ewone would also be nice.

The other top picks would be Elendil and Aragorn and Isildur together the mighest of kings

Bombadil people

What only one vote for old Tom Bombadil? I mean who may be the most powerful creature on middle earth really. The valar are gone remember. And Tom was there before any of them. And is the only creature on earth uneffected by The Ring of Power. And hes a cool guy who skips around the woods happy as can be. I mean who wouldnt feel safe with someone who is basically a combination between god and one of the seven dwarves.

I don't know about safe but those yellow boots and all that singing about himself... I going to have to go with Turin since anything bad that may happen will probably happen to him: like a human lightning rod.

Yeah, but he has a habit of stabbing his friends. Which is why I'm going to choose ... any of the Valar. That way I get to stay in Valinor, out of harms way, so to speak.
