I always pictured Rivendell as a group of many houses with one large in the middle, that of Elrond. But in my mind the houses are so connected with little gardens, archways and corridors that they nearly form one entity, the Last Homely House. I never pictured it to have more than around 250 inhabitants.

Nice imagery, Eärniel. Makes me want to go live there.

I would have gotten to live in Rivendell with Glorfindel for at least a few years had Estë not snatched me away to live with the Atani. As it is, I'm going West as soon as I get home.

Nice place, Rivendell. I like Eärniel's description.

Wonder how he came up with Vestfold...perhaps he had studied a map?

I always thought of Rivendell as pretty small. I mean only the High elves that survived escaped there, and it's hidden, so it can't be that large, right?

That's what I always thought. And I couldn't imagine any waterfalls either. My mind is still rejecting any 'true' picture of Rivendell. So even as I read now, knowing what I should be thinking, it just doesn't work.

I always pictured Rivendell as being somewhat small, confined and secretive.

I have always thought of Rivendell as starting off as a stronghold. Over time, a looong time, seeing as the times changed somewhat from Rivendell being a marshalling point to a rest stop like an inn, this fortress was remodeled into this big mansion type house with many smaller houses that interconnect. But, this is the crazy part of my image, the smaller dwellings are all shoved in the back. I just always imagined my first view of Rivendell would be this huge welcoming mansion.
