Okay, they're getting ready to fight. The hobbit is raseing his hand, the wizard is trying to talk him out of it... AH!!! THE HORROR!!! THE WIZARD HAS BEEN BRAINED BY A THROWN ROCK!!! THE HORROR!!! Yes it is that scarey, and what are you doing looking over my sholder?" Har har har... That was fun... and why Saruman and Pippin? Ask my sister, I was out of ideas and that was enough of an idea to power the whole of the post up to now... Now for someone else... Smog Vs. The balrog: "Okay this is Denathor here reporting on, *sniff* the gruge mach between Smog the dragon and the balrog of moria. *sniff* I'm behind an enchanted fireproof glass wall *sniff* the ring is fireproofed in a simalar manor. *sniff* I gotta go..." At this point Denathor leaves the room and trascript is resumed by Farameer. "This is Farameer. I'm sorry about my father, he hasn't been the same sence Borameers death... Anyway, Smag is entering the ring, so is the balrog, Smog has shot a fireball at the balrog! The balrog is on fir! (Okay, 'fire') The balrog is breathing fire at Smog now! He isn't even phased! Now they're smacking each other! The balrog is pulling out a sword! But now the balrog has no head! Wow! What a match! The balr-" This rest is burnt beond reconition...

great matches . another fight i wouldn't mind seeing would have to be aragon v. isilador. of course, isilador would win because he managed to cut off Saurons hand/finger, and before that, snuck into the high court of numenor to rescue a seedling ofthe white tree right under Saurons nose.

So the answer is: If in the Hobbit: Bombur. If in LOTR: Barliman. Least that's what I think

I'd say Bombur both times. IMO height has little to do with it. Barliman was bigger than Gimli, but I doubt that Barliman would beat him.

But it isn't foolproof, so I only said he'd beat him in LOTR as in LOTR Bombur can't move! (It's mentioned in the councle of elrond, or somewere before that in rivendell, i can't quite remember...) But in the hobbit Bombur can move and is trained to kill! (He survived the battle of five armys and he didn't even have a magic ring!) But you can still disagree with me if you want... Sam Vs. Gollum Sam just kills Gollum with a Potato launcher Or it goes the way it went in the book, or maybe the way it went in the movie...

they're both big, and powerful, elf-ly, and they each have one of the elven rings (i think? I need to read the books again...)

Galadriel would win that easily. She has seen Valinor and dwelt there, Elrond hasn't.

I'm going to go with Galadriel too. She's wicked scary. I always got the impression that she had the most powerful of the three rings.

IIRC, it says somewhere in LOTR that Elrond had "the mightiest of the Three". Nevertheless, I'd go with G, on account of her proper Noldor fighting spirit.

I think Gaffer is right and Vilya was mightiest of the three. It was after all given to Gil-galad who was High King of the Noldor.
