Alright everyone
let me tell you the composer that you need to listen to (besides Berlioz. oooh! speaking of Berlioz, I recommend "Les Nuites d'ete") His name is Alexander von Zemlinsky. for a not well known composer, he is surprisingly prolific. several symphonies, string quartets, operas (mostly operas), symphonic poems and sacred music. hmm....(you wonder....) this guy sounds like he's from the 1700's... but he's not. Alexander von Zemlinsky,1871-1942 http://tigger.uic.edu/~volk/Zemlinsky/Zemlinsky.html thats where you can learn more about him.

I'll check it out! Which Requiem? Not the same as yours: Hungarian Radio and Television Chorus with Nicolaus Esterhazy Sinfonia and Michael Halasz Its by Naxos.

Wagner? That's one of my teacher's names. Never heard of him, though.

Has anyone heard the Queen symphony? It is the most beautiful piece of music integrating several melodies of Queen songs and including them seamlessly in a symphony, without just sounding like orchestral versions of the songs. I'd be interested to hear other people's views on it.

I recently acquired a new CD of music by Ralph Vaughan Williams (Paritia for Double Strings, some folk songs, etc.) The oboe concerto on it has an exceptional haunting melody. Absolutley gorgeous. I don't know how many times I've already listened to it.

Composer of the Week: Sir William Walton
Sir Willliam Walton was born onMarch 29, 1902 in Oldham,.Lancashire, England.
He's not very popular nowadays, even among classical music lovers, but if he hadnt written his first symphony, then John Williams would not have composed his score for STAR WARS. http://www.bach-cantatas.com/Bio/Walton-William.htm

Grey_Wolf, have you heard of Percy Grainger? he wrote his "The Warriors" suite at about the same time that Holst wrote his 'Planets' suite. Its a great and really exciting piece. I highly reccomend it.
Also, Bernstein's "fancy free ballet" is really good too.
