Hey all! What's new? I had to throw away my swimsuit from last year because the fabric was starting to disintergrate for some reason. The same thing is happening to this year's suit. I have no idea why. Don't ask me why I just shared that fact with you.

Could be a few factors.

There might be something in the pool water that's causing it to disintegrate , something in your laundry detergent (if you don't just hang it up to dry), or space aliens could be coming by and shooting it with teeny ray guns.

I know this one.

You must wash out your suit with clear water every time you wear it in one of those nasty chlorinated pools. Nylon (commonly used in fashion swimsuits) is hydrophilic, it absorbs water. This weakens the fiber over time. Spandex (which is the generic name for DuPont Lycra) is used in virtually all suits, and degrades in chlorine, although chemists have developed some 'chlorine-resistant' fibers for swimsuits. Competitive swimmers commonly use new suits for competition, to get the full stretch. But rinsing religiously will keep it in the best condition you can expect.
