and who is master of classical?
and of romantic?
and of modern?

for me its...
Handel-Baroque(btw, i use to think that baroque was a man)
Mozart-classical
Berlioz-romantic
Britten-modern

Does posting a message put this category at the top of the list? So people see it? I hope so...

Anyway. A real comment:

Britten wrote some cool music for oboe--Metamorphoses after Ovid. I have two different recordings of them on cd.

I love "In the Bleak Midwinter" by Holst.

Vivaldi is nice too.

A lot of baroque music seems so similar--all the baroque oboe concertos I have (and I have a lot) are wonderful, but quite similar. I still could listen to them for hours on end.

My favorite. instrument is....you guessed it- OBOE! and organ comes in a second. It might pass oboe in a few years though, you never know.

Telemann wrote good music for two violins, i think. one person starts and then a measure or to later the second person comes in at the beginning of the piece. You wouldn't notice that they are playing the same music. I did some on oboe with a violinist once. Really cool.

yes, that style is called canon,
the most famous example being
the 'Canon' , by Johann Pachelbel

I like Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor. apparently he had writers block, talked to Leo Tolstoy, got worse, went to a physcologist, go better and wrote this famous piece, dedicating it to that doctor. Its really cool and weird in some places (like 3rds in the left hand and eight notes in the right).

Does the music from the music hall in my Rogue Squadron II game count? I'm listening to that right now.
Anyway, most of my favorite classical music is famous, my favorate being Motzart 40, I think.
