That's what I'm here for, discussing vegetarianism. Talk to Mirahzi. . .

Good for you!!! Go veggie! Or at least cut down on your meat. . .it took me a really long time to get off meat entirely; it helps to go slow.

Ok, I've been trying to cutdown... but there's an obscure lack of vegetables in my house, so I'm mostly eating rice.

Also, my family isn't really a strong supporter of vegetarianism. They're not against it, but they're not exactly for it either

Rice is good. I love rice, it's good with fish, and tofu.

Where I come from, one is never really fed unless food is served with rice. You're choice of steamed rice, stir-fried rice with egg, bacon, or just plain ole onions and/or garlic. Then there's rice cakes sweetened sticky rice for desert, popped-rice...

Ahh, onions 'n rice! Gotta try that... those rice deserts sound interesting, too.

Here, I mainly eat Japanese rice... been the same rice for a couple years now... tends to get a bit boring. I like steamed rice, but don't get much of it

Never had tofu either...

Btw, Eruviel, you're vegetarian right? But you eat fish. Where's the cutoff point? Are eggs considered meat? Are these dumb questions? Why am I still asking things?

Not dumb questions. . .I do eat fish, and eggs, because. . .well, I just do I consider myself a vegetarian, because I dont' eat anything for which a mammal or bird had to die. But then the egg thing gets complicated. Also, it differs for other people. . .

I just had rice and tofu for dinner. I love rice!

Ok, two more questions:

1. What exactly is tofu? Is that supposed to imitate meat?

2. I assume gravy from meat is considered "meat," right?

Edit: I love rice too! Just not Japanese rice.

1. Tofu is basically soy bean curd. It's high in protein, and very healthy. Although it is often used as a meat-substitute, and a dairy substitute, that is not its sole purpose.
2. Hey, I don't even eat soup in which chicken broth was used!

There's a really good brand of flavored tofus (sorry can't remember the name) that are precooked and can be eaten right out of the package. They're good with crackers!

There was a feature in Discovery Channel all about tofu. It's all basically soy bean extract but there are probably more ways to make it than cheese.

There's:
1. regular pressed
2. tofu paper (sheets formed on top of cooling soy extracts
3. Dark tofu (pre-cooked and dried and aged in snow)4. Sour tofu (allowed to ferment and mold like blue cheese)

And many more made in different towns...
