I actually have a follow up story to this

There was once a composer called Josquin. He lived in France and composed for the court and church.

After working there for quite some time, he felt he deserved a raise. One day he built up the chutzpa to ask the king for a raise. To his relief, the king said yes to the raise.

Josquin was feeling happy, but after a few weeks and still no raise, Josquin had to work up his bravery again to ask. But he faced a dilemma: he worried that if he asked again, the king would annoyed and fire him.

So he came up with another plan: for the next sunday service, he wrote a church motet in which the words "Remember O Lord, Thy Promise Unto Thy Servant" featured prominently.

The king must've taken the hint, because Josquin finally got his salary raise. And for the sunday following, he wrote a motet called "We Thank Thee O Lord".

It sounds and reads wonderful. I'm so glad I demo'd it, I was so unhappy with it, I knew I could do better. Even though I was worried about the time frame. But I did it!


....Now....having stayed up all day and night for two days...class is in oh... three hours.

Right. The expression means "People who joke know when someone is being funny." and it implies, in this case, "Come on, Mari. You don't stay awake in class because the class is small. Even if there were 500 people in it, you'd be in the front row, and therefore, couldn't fall asleep."

AND I have the excuse of my glasses which make me have to sit close to the board

Besides: my teachers have this nasty habit of asking us questions to check whether we did our readings and you get graded for that...

You didn't get kicked out? Or get a lower grade? That's what they do here (the type of action taken depending on the teacher

nah. Hand in the course work, sit the exams. Attendance ain't compulsory, and even if it were, post-grads sure as hell wouldn't be graded on it. I mean, what is this? High school again? *giggles*

Tell me about it, but seen as that in the Japanese department every year only 2 or 3 people graduate on average, they want to try and get that number to go up by making us attend class. If you wonder why: they get extra money for everyone that graduates, especially if you graduate from your BA within 4 years.
So back to high school for us.
