Happy Chinese New Year to everyone from Taiwan. It's the Year of the Horse- I'm one myself, revealing my age .
So firecrackers are popping, the stores are jammed as people are doing their last minute shopping- it's 4:30 in the afternoon here,so everybody's gearing up for the big family dinner tonight. My three sons are back in town -two are in college, one has just finished high school- which means I have to fork out the traditional red envelopes filled with money . So, happy Year of the Horse!

Happy new year, GrayMouser.
It sort of passed me by this year. Usually, a few streets away there's a family that celebrates Chinese new year. I can hear their fireworks, take a look at the calendar and think 'Oh yeah, chinese new year'. Not this year, though, I wonder if they've moved. |

About the Log...
Eärn, I was reading this excellent book I have - Red Sky At Night by Jane Struthers - and happened upon the passage about Yule traditions. I remembered your inquiry (honestly, I read a few lines from a British book and my vocabulary goes poshy? Gee. ) of the Yule log. So here's the short passage from the book:
"Fire was very important to our ancestors and had immense significance because it gave them heat and warmth. One of the Christmas traditions, practised especially by landowners, was to prepare a huge Yule log for burning. Then, on Christmas Eve, the log was dragged home and pushed into the fireplace. Traditionally, it was lit from a small remnant of the previous year's Yule log. If the fireplace was very large, the log might burn throughout the Twelve Days of Christmas , in which case it was considered to be a sign of forthcoming luck. If the fire went out, this was a heart-sinking indication of bad luck to come. Today, only those of us who live in old houses with large inglenooks have the space to burn a porper Yule log. But many of us have them on our tables instead, in the form of a chocolate Swiss roll covered with chocolate icing."

Actually - to me it seemed very slow getting from my teens to 36, and then on up from there. When it seems fast - is when you look backwards at it!

You're only as old as you feel- which makes me roughly 104.

I don't even know the rules of the game. Funny, since I played softball myself.

Are family doesn't care about football.
This is the first time we even attempted to care that the Superbowl was happening. We kept track of the score and watched a movie, but a Seahawk win was exciting. My mom suspected foul play though, the Broncos lost so badly

Hello all, hope you had a lovely weekend.
If by any chance some of you Americans have some snow to spare, do send some over. |
