Methinks the ringbearer is otherwise engaged...

Here's one for you, Rad.

Which actor has played BOTH Frodo and Bilbo in dramatisations of LOTR, and in which ones?

D.

Ian Holm? Bilbo in the movie; can't remember his Frodo part... a BBC radio serial?

Well done, BoP. He was Frodo in the BBC radio version in the early 1980s. Over to you..

I'll let someone else go. Haven't really been following the thread, so I don't know what's been asked, and what hasn't.

O.K, I'm back now. Sorry it took me so long.

What was the reason that Galadriel gave Aragorn the gift that she did? (a brooch shaped like an eagle with an emerald set in it) There are a few different answers, but there is one in particular I am looking for.

actually she didn't give it to him. she handed it to him but arwen gave it to him these are her exact words:

"This stone I gave to Celebrian my daughter, and she to hers; and now it comes to you as a token of hope. In this hour take the name that was foretold for you, Elessar, the Elfstone of the house of Elendil!"

as it says here she gave it to him as "a token of hope". there was that the right answer??

Mmmmmmm......close. The answer I'm lookin' for can be found in Morgoth's Ring, for those lucky ones who have it.

What was the name of the hill where Pippin looked into the PalantÃ*r of Orthanc?

By the way, in response to Ringbearer's question, in Morgoth's Ring the Professor notes that among the Noldor it was traditional at weddings for the bride's mother to give the groom a jewel as a gift and for the groom's father to give a similar gift to the bride. So the text informs us that Galadriel's gift was given in the place of Arwen's mother. To be thorough, however (pedantic?) the prof must have changed his mind because the jewel was passed through the female line and is Arwen's gift, not Galadriel's, as Ms Undomial has explained. Thought you'd all want to know.

Aaaahhh!!! I would not have ventured into this thread if I thought I would have to pose a question. You are all too clever for me.

If I must, how about:

What were the Tyrn Gorthad?
