A few ways to tell if you are obsessed with LOTR

Yes.. sorry about posting the third time in a row. It's not my fault I have to be on when no-one can reply!

You know you're obsessed when..
-You chase after anyone who looks like they might be carrying a Tolkien book.

Yesterday, while working at my uncle's store, I saw a man walk in, clutching a book that looked suspiciously like a hardcover edition of one of the HoME books. I unintentionally made such a show of trying to get a look at the cover to see whether my guess was correct, that the man looked at me strangely and asked 'Are you ok?'. I was forced to sit back down and act normally.

As for the recepie... I got it from someone else, so I can't really say it's mine. I just used a few substitutions (that became the downfall of the baking.)

You pick up weeds, transplant them into yogurt containers, then give them LotR names...actually, its a lot of fun!! I even measure them everyday...so far Merry and Sam have grown the most, and poor Frodo has a cut...mebbe the Ringwraiths visited overnight...hehe...

Someone posted a lembas recipe on here a long time ago, I think in the ME forum. It might be in the "Middle Earth recipes" thread, but if not, do a search of the word "lembas." Although I think it's a different one than Ninquilote made.

I got a paperback of UT today! I think I'll have to get Letters online. I found the Corebook of that roleplaying game, but I think it's out of my budget right now. I almost got Roverandom today, too, but it was $12! I think I'll check the library on that one.

here try this recipe. i havent tried it though.

What Tolkien says about Lembas
-They contain honey
-they are light-colored on the inside and light brown crust
-they are thin and regular-shaped. This implies they were made on some kind of griddle iron. The closest modern equivalent is a Krumkake iron. ( pizzelle iron)

Some other things we can guess.
They contain the fruit and maybe the flower-water of the Mallorn tree. I substituted oranges, although kumquats or a hand of Buddha fruit might be better.
They probably had some kind of finely ground light-colored nut in them. I used almonds.
They contained some kind of nourishing flour. I used semolina flour, which is a more primitive flour, and also more nourishing.
Galadriel probably used some kind of grinder to refine the ingredients. I used a blender.

The recipe:
3 eggs
1 cup honey (preferably wild honey)
1 tablespoon grated orange peel or three kumquats or one large finger of a hand of Buddha.
2 teaspoons orange flower water (optional)
3 oz blanched almonds
1/4 cup melted butter
2-1/4 cups semolina flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Place eggs, honey, orange peel or other fruit, orange flower water, and almonds in blender. Blend on high for 3 minutes. Add 1 cup of the flour. Blend for 1 minute. Scrape into a bowl and add remaining flour and salt. Whisk or stir until well blended. Bake lembas on a pizzelle or krumkake iron 15 seconds each or until lightly brown. You may substitute a waffle iron but add a teaspoon of baking powder. The texture will not be quite accurate in a waffle iron.

I was doing this with my campus, and I decided the Forestry building would be Rivendell, and the Engineering building would be the Lonely Mountain. The biggest Parkade would be the Mines of Moria, and the neighbouring forest would be Lothlorien. The Japanese gardens would be the Shire. The largest, ugliest

Obviously there's some flaws, and my personal Middle-earth is far from complete, but that's the sort of thing Tolkienites do while walking to class!

I've just gotten back from camp. As soon as I came back home, I ran straight to my PC to get to Entmoot.

While I was away, I demonstrated several ways to show I am obsessed with Middle Earth etc:

-When we went to a museum and I saw the word 'tween' (short for between) in a display, I did a double-take because it reminded me of the start of LotR when Frodo was in his tweens
-I was envious of my friends who had pointy hoods on their jackets because it was more Faramir-ish than my horrible round hood
-Still at the museum, I saw a pretend blacksmith's workshop. I considered stealing some tools from there so I could make my own reforged sword, like Anduril.
-I again did a double-take at the museum when I saw the word 'ent' (someone's surname)
-Whenever I saw the word 'Jaguar' on my friends' clothes, I kept on thinking it said 'Tengwar' instead
-Everybody, and I mean everybody knows that I am obsessed with LotR
-My friends know that I will get furious if anyone criticizes LotR (I cracked it when they said Sam and Frodo were gay)
-My two most used nicknames are 'Lee' and 'Hobbit'
-My friend and I discovered that the other had read LotR and loved it, so we discussed it for ages. I now cannot call her by her real name and can only refer to her as 'Aragorn'

That's all I can remember now. Will post more later.
