Reading any good books? - Page 17

I am always in and out of the LOTR books or the Silmarillion.

But besides those, I have been reading a lot of books by Ted Dekker.
He is a Christian fiction author, his stuff is great.... really fast paced!

Ok ok so I guess I was probably too young, and too inexperienced a reader at age 14. That was the cause of my failure. But among the older and more skilled readers there's no excuse for not getting through the Silmarillion. It's just as easy to read and get into as LotR. God, how did I live so long in ignorance? Alas, alas...

IMO, the Sil is a huge effort in determination. I read it once and could never lift that tome again. :-)

Yeah, it's not exactly an easy read. I was exaggerating. Personally I hope to read it many times though- so I can figure out all the things I'm missing this time.

Yeah, as a background and reference for things mentioned it's great. However, once read it should last you for years.

I couldn't read the Sil when I was younger, tried but couldn't get through it without falling asleep...but this last winter I found it an easy read...weird, time and a less jauntice eye, perhaps?

yep, more patience and dedication to learning the subject also as your brain grows older your attention span increases.....to a certain level.

well, of course i jus read the half blood prince, but now i have to do reading for school, which i wouldnt mind if it had more than 3 good books, all of which i read 3 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!(the hobbit, war of the worlds, and jurassic park), which means i cant take the tests again, but i was thinkin of readin death be not proud, does anyone know if its good?

I am reading A Traveler's Guide to Mars.
I hope I can book my trip...and I hope the proper clothing it reccommends isn't more than $10,000, which I should be able to pay for if I save up for 20 years, give or take a years. Does anyone have an old Apollo-like space suit, and maybe a good suit to wear over it to keep the dust out?

Anyway, it is a very interesting book.

Finished Silmarillion, yay. I'm going back and taking notes and nerdy stuff like that now. So I can keep everything straight. There are sooo many events and people that sometimes I forget how so-and-so died or who was the king of where and so on. Yep, I'm on chapter 11. I rented (ah, too many video game rentals...) I mean checked out unfinished Tales too but that doesn't mean I'll read any of it right away. I need a break seeing how I have been doing nothing but reading.

I've been meaning to read Sir Roger Penrose's new book, ambitiously titled "The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe." Anyone read it? Is it any good?

I read this article in Discover magazine where Sir Penrose talks about quantum physics and "why can an electron be in two places at once but humans (and other large objects) can't?" It was really interesting. I love physics.

So I'm at the library now...and I just picked Henry Fielding's "Tom Jones" off the shelf. At 982 pages I feel overwhelmed. Maybe it's not so bad...this has tons of annotations that sometimes take up 1/3 the page. But it's tiny print too.
