Not 'decency' - but the 'n' is correct!

OK - I wondered - and I always forget which spelling is English vs American.

"I sat at night by the waters of Anduin, in the grey dark
under the /_o_n_/ pale moon, watching the ever-_o_i_g/ stream;
and the /_a_/ reeds were /_u_t_i_g/. So do we ever /_a_c_/t_e/_h_r_s/
_i_h/_s_i_i_t_/,/w_i_h/_u_/e_e_i_s/_o_/p_r_l_/h_l_/,/a_d/_s_u_/
f_o_/i_/t_/h_r_y/_u_/l_n_s/. But that night all the world /s_e_t/
at the midnight hour."

Only time to try a little now - bolded. Got to make room on the computer for my middle one.

Trying just a little more...

"I sat at night by the waters of Anduin, in the grey dark
under the /_o_n_/ pale moon, watching the ever-moving stream;
and the /_a_/ reeds were /_u_t_i_g/. So do we ever /_a_c_/t_e/_h_r_s/
_i_h/_s_i_i_t_/,/w_i_h/_u_/e_e_i_s/_o_/p_r_l_/h_l_/,/a_d/_s_u_/
f_o_/i_/t_/h_r_y/_u_/l_n_s/. But that night all the world slept
at the midnight hour."

"sad reeds were rustling" and "nigh Osgiliath" are correct

"the /_o_n_/ pale moon" is not round, though.

We are indeed.

But none of the suggestions so far are correct.

Good to see you, though, Midge!

It's so hard to find the right word when the main possibilities in my head are "round" and "moony"...

So the word denotes something of the moon's shape, or phase.

But it's not full (round), gibbous, half, quarter, crescent, waxing, waning, new...

Trying to think of other words used for those, relative to the moon.

And I know when we finally learn it, it's going to be one of those, "Of COURSE that's what it is!!!" things.

I don't know if it's quite as "Of COURSE" as all that, but it might be a "why didn't we think of that".
It's more to do with its phase than its shape (despite the obvious connection between them).
