That is so insane... its as though they dont even try to deny that it seems like the awards are not merit of 'the best' of that particular year.....

Did you guys see the other movies? or are you just basing your choice on the fact that you liked the books and liked the movie? (I still think that most LOTR fans only like the movie because of the books).

No actually I liked the movie - I just didn't think it was the greatest. Yes compared to the books I thought it was pretty bad. But as a movie - I'd get the DVD - but there would have been no way I would have seen it so many times in the theater if it didn't have The Lord of the Rings in it's title.

Ah, so when you say "most fans" you really mean jerseydevil. It seems to me that most of the readers on this site really honestly loved the movie, even with all the changes. It's also seems to me that it would be difficult to prove that they wouldn't have liked it if they hadn't read the book.
I think the scope of the making of the film would have brought it plenty of notoriety and it was quite popular with non-readers, so it's possible that many people would have loved it even had they not read the books. I do believe, however, that the movie would never have been made were it not for the books.

I hadn't read the books before I saw it (in fact, after being unable to finish the Hobbit, I swore I would never read anything Tolkien again, and that he was that great of a writer...but don't hurt me, I was unaware of how good LOTR really was) and I absolutely LOVED the movie.

Well most people I know that hadn't read the books just think it was an okay movie. One of my friends said compared it to Fast and Furious. My cousins refuse to see it. My youngest cousin who is 12 - said that no one he knows liked the movie (which I don't really believe) but that's what he claims.

I know I should, but I don't tend to take most 12 year olds opinions on certain things seriously.
Well, basically, anyone who says 'Space Jam' is a good movie, I don't really take their opinion on movies seriously.

Well, your friends haven't exactly impressed me with their cognitive abilities. However, it still remains that many people did love the movie, and many people didn't. But that's true with all movies.

Well my 12 year old cousin has been working on B985's morining show, which is the major radio station on the Jersey Shore, for the past year . He's not exactly your average 12 year old.

Well I don't agree with him on everything - including his feelings about Lord of the Rings. But he is a 12 year old that you can talk to about politics and other "adult" conversations with. He reads the paper, watches CNN, watches the news, e-mails to Talk Back Live and gets it read on air. He's very smart. But like I said - I also don't agree with his feelings on LOTR - I just don't think it's the greatest movie this year or definitely not the greatest movie ever as so many people think. But it's all a matter of opinion and taste.
This is my 499th post,

What an interesting thread.
