Today I got a raise.
A BIG ONE. O_o I think I was making about 8.50 an hour (maybe more?) and now all of the sudden I'm making $12 retroactive as of January 1st. For a 10 hour a week desk-monkey/gofer' job that's beyond pretty freakin' excellent. I need to find out who I have to thank for that and go attack them with love and gratitude. Seriously. I may be dying just a little bit trying to do the music, plus classes, plus working the two jobs, BUT... $12 an hour makes it a little more worthwhile. |

Yay for raises! Me, I had an interview with a staffing company today, hopefully I get hooked up with something very soon. She seemed encouraging. I'll be real sad if I can't see my school kids anymore though.

after 30 years of rule, the dictator mubarak resigned in a 30 second statement (by ex-vice presiden suleiman).. the second arab dictator (supported by the west) to fall within one month. people-power indeed.
"Ben Ali said 2014, Tunisians said Jan. 14, Mubarak said 2011, Egyptians said Feb. 11. Long live Tunisia, Long live Egypt" been following the revolution from the beginning, and i know it's not over yet.. but we're sure going to party like it's 2011! mabrouk, Misr, mabrouk..

Personal achievement today: I've been deep-frying turkeys for the past few years - usually a few each around Thanksgiving and Christmas, sometimes another one or two. This year I did one for our church's Super Bowl Party. Lately I've toyed with the idea of trying home made soup from the what's left of the turkey. Today - I finally did it.
I only got about half the bones in - and it was just a 12 1/2 pound bird. There was still plenty of meat on them, because people were really just picking at the turkey at the party, and mostly ate the breast meat. I ended up using about a gallon of water, I picked as much meat as I could off the other bones and eventually put some of that in (I may try this again Sunday with the rest of the bones and meat). Once I cleared out the bones I put in 3 potatoes and 2 carrots. Then I added in some other veggies I had sauteed in butter: onion, celery, mushrooms and a red pepper. I cut everything into big chunks. Then I threw in a few seasonings. It came out alright. I made a few biscuits to go with it, and some cranberry sauce. I think I'll start making this a 'next day' tradition after our holiday meals with the deep-fried turkey.

Today was my first day at the new job!
And sheesh! I didn't expect to be thrown into it all like this! Before noon I had attended two surgeries - even assisted during the first one - as well as having been delegated the responsibility by the chief doctor to contact an infection specialist regarding a septic patient and lead the afternoon round... But well, I lived through the day with my honour intact And my mentor could possibly be the best mentor this side of the Atlantic

I'm glad about your mentor, too - I was lucky enough to be snagged by the head of the systems research group at the radar company that I worked for (we made radars for the military of many countries) who was a brilliant guy, and I got a lot of wonderful experience - SO much more fun than just working on a long-term project. We were working with plasma displays almost 30 years ago, back when they were really new and extremely rare. And now look at them! It's great to have a wonderful mentor!

You'll see on another thread that - I just got a job! It's not in my field. But at least it's something!
On an even happier note: I've been involved for a long time in a Bible study/competition program called 'Bible Quizzing'. My oldest son started doing it last year - and he and a few others from our tiny little church are really kicking it in gear. This past weekend we went to one of the top invitationals - teams come from hundreds (even a thousand) miles away. And I was totally shocked - but our team was 4th of the 36 teams there!!! Lots of fun.

Okay, I'm a little confused by my grade. It was posted as a "50" but there's a 0.98% right next to it. I looked down the "grade sheet" (it has our student ID numbers, but not names, and the scores we made... it's a weird setup, never had a professor do that before) and no one else had over a 50 either.
So it looks like I MAY have totally aced my Ethics midterm. I think that's 50 "points" and .98 out of a possible 1.0 but I could be wrong. O_o So confused. Plus I don't know how I did on Wednesday's accounting mid-term, but I'm preeeeetty sure I freakin' aced my Friday accounting mid-term (it was a two-day test). I was the third or fourth person done, and that's with double checking all of my math, and there wasn't a single thing on there that I couldn't do without even thinking twice. So hopefully that means I'll have a good accounting grade too. *fingers crossed* |
