This charmed life you led with braces is quite a contrast to mine. I did everything right, very carefully, and broke five or six brackets a year.

I would have to say that braces is a clear example of the destination being more important than the journey. You got through it, though. Congrats to you too.

I think it depends on your orthodontist. I had braces for 4 years, and only broke one brace. My sister went to a different orthodontist, and hers were constantly breaking or falling off.

I did, however, brush my teeth after eating or drinking anything. Did you have colored braces? I didn't. That could be it...

That could very well be.

I agree I've only broke a bracket once. They are worth it. There is a reason the only pic of myself I've posted I have a rose in front of my face

I had one of my brackets just fall off right after I had first gotten them on and we had to go back to town and get them to re-cement it. I hated it when I would ask the dentist when I first got mine if it was real cement like they put on the roads and he would never answer. That was rather unnerving... I still wonder what it is made of......?

Quite different from 'cement", which is made of sand, etc. Dental 'cement" uses the word in it's other meaning, "adhere to". It might as easily be called "dental glue" but they just started the other way.

Your orthodontist should have answered. That would only be polite.

Congratz on getting your braces off .

My braces were a nightmare. I had them on for five years, and four of those were under student orthodontists. Every single time we went in (about once every three or four weeks) they would take at least three hours, sometimes four, to work on my braces. I usually walked out of there crying because my mouth hurt so badly. Thank GOD we finally moved and my mom was forced to look for a new ortho... and she couldn't find a student hospital.

Honestly, they told me it would probably be two more years. We went to the new orthodontist and he had me out of those things in nine months. Apparently, looking at my old work, there was 'no reason' I should've been in braces for more than three years.

So I was pissed . But also sooooo happy to get them off!

Unfortunately I was so adverse to the idea of having anything in my mouth that I never wore my retainer, so my teeth aren't perfect any more. But they're still decent, and in ten years or so I may go in and have them 'cleaned up' again .

I've had mine on for four stinking years now. It's really annoying, cause all of your friends will get their's off in like a year, but here I am. Four painful years later, and it looks like another year.

I was lucky, I had a good orthodonist. It only ever was truly painful when I first got them.

ah braces... almost makes one nostalgic...

O.K. so I was kidding. the only thing I really liked about braces was getting them off (slimy kwim?)
Oh yeah and my teeth are nice now see? *I'm smiling I swear*

And I never really craved to just bite straight into an apple as much as I did during my years with braces. Had to cut them up though. Ah well
