How about Samwise Gamgee? But I discovered the answer in Appendix B, not FotR; are you sure this Andy is mentioned in FotR?

correct Lotesse!!

in fotr when they first enter lorien and are asked to cross the river using the ropes the elves set up, sam says something to the effect that "his uncle Andy would never believe this" (andwise was a rope maker)

The thing is, you guys, that was probably way too vague of a question - I'll give a huge hint, by slightly altering the question: Boromir mentions that he was born under the shadow of what mountain?

I will guess the white mountains, (I think the name of the specific mountain was Mount Mindolluin)

I still think south of Rohan was a good first guess.
