Master & Commander, by Patrick O'Brian.

For some long car rides ahead I have Jimmy Carter's "Memories of a Rural Boyhood," Five Days in London by John Lukas, and some Jeeves (by Wodehouse).

back from Borders - got two new read-alouds for the family (Edward Eager's "Seven Day Magic" and "Charlie and the choc. factory") and I found Dorothy Sayers' translation of Dante's Divine Comedy! Yay! Perfect for the Ecuador trip.

Jane Austen's "Sanditon, Lady Susan, and The Watsons" just came in the mail for me. One uncompleted novel and two short ones.

I'm in the middle of Reading Lolita in Tehran and am about to start the Potter books again in anticipation of The Half-Blood Prince.

I'm reading three books right now: Candide, A Confederacy of Dunces, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I like the middle one, but the other two are kind of boring.

A Confederacy of Dunces is a great book!
Just recently bought A People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn. My (other) best friend Cornell, who died a few months ago r.i.p., used to rave on and on about this book, and urged me to read it. Well, he'd be happy to see me finally read it!

"Persuasion" by Jane Austen
"The Most of P.G. Wodehouse" (a very large collection of Wodehouse stories)

And am waiting for the library to get "Post Captain" by Patrick O'Brian and "Harry Potter and the HBP."

I'm reading the appendixs in ROTK...very cool stuff

Note:

I found a place here in town (the big book stores are already sold out with pre-orders) that is just selling them off the rack...a local drug store so I'm going to be there at 9am sharp saturday morning and get my book! Oh, and they accidently sold a book already to a local kid, hehe, but they asked that he return it...I'd be unavailable I think to return it...sheesh....it's just a story, these publishers act like it's nationial treasure (gold bricks)...uhmm, I guess they are worth money, but I've heard there's been talk of sueing because some books got sold accidently.....makes me sick,

Just trying to keep perspective...

I'm just finishing up The Godfather. I'll probably finish today. It's funny, my copy is so old. It's probably from 1969. I was reading it one day when the book literally fell into two pieces in my hands. That was about the last thing I was expecting. It's in three pieces now, not counting the front or back covers or the random pages that have fallen out. ^^;; Good book though.

I'm still finishing the last book of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I was going really fast, but suddenly in the middle of Mostly Harmless I just stopped.

After I finish those, I want to give Silmarillion another try. Wish me luck!

Katya, if you're into The Godfather, i really recommend reading the original screenplay, as well, then re-watch Coppola's Godfather. You can get a free copy of the play on this site:

I'm reading Ray Bradbury's "I Sing the Body Electric!" and other stories again. IT was an excellent book, but I'm only reading the ones that are useful for ideas.
I love that book, though.

I have now acquired Senator Rick Santorum's new book "It Takes A Family: Conservatism and the Common Good." My mom actually does work for the publishers, ISI (Intercollegiate Studies Institute), and picked it up for me today.
