I'm currently trying to figure out whether I should go teach in Japan for a year or not. I'd like to, but it would mean delaying my plans to become a foster parent for another year longer and who knows what plans God has with me? I could use a bit of divine guidance, because I'm a bit lost right now.
I could use some prayers for an answer, and possibly more importantly for an open heart to listen to the answer.

That's indeed a worthy target to pray for. Will do.

I've just signed up to start volunteering at a shelter for African-American transfolk. I'm obviously excited, but also a little nervous, since there are obvious divides between me and them. I'd ask prayers that God will use my white cisgendered self well in this endeavour.

Mainly I'm going to pray that you don't say "cisgendered" in front of the wrong people and have them think you're weird or something.
But in all honesty... good luck! Prayers being said on your behalf. |

In regards to what I asked prayers for earlier: I got my answer and I've decided to stay home and aim for foster parenthood
Thanks for the prayers!

That sounds great!
I'd appreciate some prayers for my medical situation - I've gone 25 years dealing with an immune system disorder that puts me in chronic pain and fatigue, as many of you know. We've got down a pretty good system dealing with it. And then we moved to Arizona in December of 2006, and wham, foot injury, surgery, shoulder injury, 2 surgeries, not good recoveries on either, plus mind-reeling multiple serious extended family issues (alcoholism, brain damage, bipolar, cancer, major anger issues, suicide concerns, spinal strokes, etc. etc.) and then this January I mysteriously got much worse with the pain/fatigue - orders of magnitude worse. It's like I"m one step above roadkill Anyway, after some bloodwork and stuff, it looks like it's a thyroid problem on top of everything else. I'm going to the doctor on Wednesday for the results of all the tests. Seriously, I hope I just don't stay in this condition - either I get better or I die. It's horrible enough dealing with 25 years of pain and fatigue, but it's so much worse now, it's all I can do to get kids to school and then do a tiny amount of work and then pick up something for dinner. I'm praying I won't need another surgery, because I don't recover well at all from surgeries. I'm hoping it will be just some thyroid medication, and I'll at least get back to my former level of bad health I am so tired, and sick to death of pain, and how these two things hurt my family - God help us.

If it's indeed a thyroid problem (hypo or hyper, do you know?) you can only get medicated, because it means your thyroid is not making enough of the right hormones. It will take a month or 3 at the least to balance out though and some symptoms never go away fully, but if they meds are at the right level, you can live a fairly normal life with it.
Of course you have the other conditions too, which might make it more difficult, but if the imunesystem thing isn't hormone dependent, the meds shouldn't interfere too much. I'll be praying for you, Rian!

thanks, guys ...
It's hypo, Mari, but it looks like there's also some masses in the thyroid. Typically, they're benign - I'll find out more tomorrow.

Have you had it long, Mari? and how is it responding to treatment?
Well, kinda frustrating visit, because we have to hold off on any treatment until I do the radioactive iodine test, and to do that, you have to go on a low-iodine diet for 2 weeks prior to the test, which will not work over Christmas holidays and traveling, so I can't do the test for more than a month The ultrasound found an "unusual" number of nodules in the thyroid, of an "unusual" size, so they want to do the radiation test to see if they're cancerous or not. The good news is that thyroid cancer is pretty slow-moving, so it's ok to take the test in January. The bad news is that I can't do any treatment until after the test, so no changes Also I'm low in DHEA, but also, can't treat until after the test.

I've had it since Christmas 2008. How it responds to treatment depends. Once they got the balance right, it went pretty well, but it gets worse a lot. I started with 25 milligrams and am now at 100 mg. Also, when I'm tired, stressed or having my period or when anything else upsets my natural hormone balance, the thyroid goes haywire as well. You learn to live with it.
I hope you don't have cancer, just a few odd knots. I'm praying for you and for your family. It's a long wait, but don't let that defeat you when so far nothing else has! *hugs*

I've only had 3 prior interviews (in my field) all year - but I had my 4th this morning, and I think it went well. It's an architect position in a facility management role at a smaller (12K student) state university - located only about 2 miles from my home!
The salary is not what I've had in the past, but more than I'm making now, and more than some previous jobs - so I can make do. Benefits are good and the hours are reasonable - even on the short side (8am to 4pm!). I'd really get to be around for the family a lot more! I think the interview went well, and feel like I could be a good 'fit' there. Please pray, friends.
