Actually, voting records on such issues tend to mirror region more than political party. There a long history of southern/central democrats voting for what would be considered christian issues and northern/coastal republicans voting against those same issues

Mm-hm; 'tis quite true. The issue is, no-one takes the Midwest seriously (including me), so we tend to consider the coastal and yankee politicians.

My preferred solution is the same thing I would do in Iraq, when people's views are just too divergent, Partition!

Which brings me to this idea: why don't we have a state for each large/major group? Put the convicts in Kansas (that way we won't have to execute them ourselves and feel guilty), the Baptists can stay in TN, put all the liberals in Massachusetts...

I'd say split the country like this.

Blue can stay the United States of America, and Red can become the Holy Empire of America.

The URL says 2004 electoral votes. So I guess blue voted Kerry and red voted Bush.
