Very nice photos, Nerd! Truely professional material. Do you use Paint to get those frames inside the frames? Theyre nice.

Since we have a flower thing going on, here's a picture of a butterfly on a flower at my grandmother's house.

The actual photo is much bigger than that, it's just that that's as big as Imageshack would let it be.

Here's a different kind of photo:

It's a picture of the fountain in the center of the quad on campus with a university building in the background. I go to Troy University, hence, we have a statue of a Trojan. I was just playing around trying to get some decent nighttime photos, but there is a bit of graininess. I played with the brightness and contrast, but didn't make it much better. That's why I think the picture looks better in a smaller size. However, I like it overall.

And now, just for grins, here's an artsy, Beatles-esque photo that I took of myself with my computer. It was really all Apple's work -- all I did was pose.

wow, that's a really nice photo! the focus is really nice, and the background's blurryness really makes the flower and butterfly stand out. you must have quite a nice camera.

Thanks, Nerdanel! I bought my camera because I'm taking a photography class this semester and then I can use it after I graduate. I'm still trying to figure out what it's capable of doing.

You camera seems more than up to the task of taking great photographs. What kind is it? I'm curious because I'd like to know more about the kind of settings you used to get that beautiful sunset.

Heh, my camera isn't actually anything special (don't tell it, though).. It's a small digital camera, 5.1 MP, 3x zoom, and looks like this: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/HPR7...7frontview.jpg

There is a setting called 'sunset'.. 8) Which means that the focus is on infinity, and there is no flash. It works pretty well.

K.. Here are some more.

This was taken in Hanko, Finland, in the end of April this year.. I added some contrast to the originally sepia-toned photo.

This was actually a friend's idea, I have to admit..

Loooong exposure.. The moon was full, therefore the light and shadows.

This one was taken the same night as the one above. It's not that good, but I thought I'd show you anyway. I've used it as a preview for a poem I wrote.

I love the one of the tree-shadowed road. I love roads like that.

These are great pics, everyone, Nerdanel especially. I can't say that I'll ever see "moonflare" anywhere else.

Khamûl, I beleive that's a giant swallowtail. It's no doubt a swallowtail, but I'm not sure which.

Nerdanel, e-mail me that picture and I'll look it up later

Thanks for the nice comment! I was glad to be able to capture the twinkling.. Next step is to capture it even better.

How old is she?

Heh, I'm blaming the moonflare on the camera.. That's actually why I'm not perfectly happy with that one.

Cool, I'll do that.

I took this one night when I couldn't sleep.. Wandered around in the city for a few hours. After 6 in the morning, the buses were all awake again.. I liked the effect on this, even wrote a little poem for it..

I stood still
watching time go by
in waves and particles
of light.

Let's jump onto the train,
you said,
with the speed of light
it will take us to the future.

Still I stand there
watching time go by
in the same place
in the same company.

Umm.. This is my cat.

Growing Wings (this one is mostly about the poem.. )

I don't like this feeling I get
everytime I think about you.
I don't like the way I see you,
or how you see me: if I only knew..

I used to like watching you,
thinking about touching you:
now it gives nothing else than pain.
I'm still thinking of you,
guess you're stuck in my brain.

So now I'm growing wings
and I promise, they'll be gorgeous.
And as they say, for that I'll have to suffer.
Though I've seen your wings, they're bigger than mine:
guess I'll just have to grow mine faster.

These wings are meant for flying,
I grow them to get away.
Soon they'll allow me to leave you.
So don't you try to stop me,
I still wouldn't believe you.

I've been watching you, my dear,
thus I know yours will be ready soon,
so you can fly away.
And when you're leaving here,
I don't want to stay.

So I'm growing my wings
and closing my mind,
because it's easier to leave
than to be left behind.

Nerdanel, your camera takes great photographs. My camera has a few different settings, but for some stuff I have to manually adjust the shutter speed and f-stop.

I love the trees at Hanko and the picture you took after being unable to sleep. The colors in that one remind me of artsy cinematography in the movie The Ring.

trolls' bane, after a bit of research, I've decided to call it a spicebush swallowtail. Based on the other photographs I have and what I remember it looking like, I'm going with that. That kind of butterfly is common around here.

Here's a few more, most of which were taken just to play around with my camera.

This is a hummingbird hovering in mid-flight. I'm impressed that the shutter speed was fast enough to stop the wings without blurring.

This is a stained glass window in a local church.

This is a 30-second time exposure at night to the south. Visible in the center of the photo is the center of the Milky Way. In the midst of that, you might be able to pick out Sagittarius, and Scorpio is visible on the right of the picture. I adjusted the contrast to make everything more visible (including the graininess of the photo ). About the unusual colors: the moon was to the right, explaining the greenish tint, and the orange at the bottom left comes from light pollution from the arc-sodium lights of a nearby city.

Absolutely no digital manipulation here. This is the way it came out of the camera. I figured out some way to get a type of double-exposure. It flashes, then keeps the shutter open, then flashes again before the shutter closes. I moved into the picture after the first flash, but before the second. I thought it was cool.
