I wouldn't feel right being named something like Galadriel...as much as I love the books and all, that's a great name to live up to...I think I would feel very pressured to live up to that name...
My mum did name me after her favorite character in a book....Elizabeth Bennet, from Pride and Prejudice. Of course, 'Elizabeth' is not exactly obvious...

I want to name my son Sam, with maybe Peregrin for a middle name. If I have a daughter, I want to name her Elanor, with perhaps Estel for a middle name. Other names I wouldn't mind using are: Lorien, Cirdan (for a middle name), Strider (for a dog), Merry, Luthien (as a middle name), or Arwen. I've always wanted to have two puppies, or kittens, and name them Merry and Pippin. (or maybe four, Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin...)
One name I would never name a kid would be Legolas, even though he is one of my favorite characters, I think they would hate me for life.

I wish...
I wish my middle name was from LotR. Or even my middle name. Like some of you have said, if I did ever have kids I would want to give them a LotR middle name, that way if they really liked it they could have people call them by their middle name, and if they didn't like it, they wouldn't have to tell everybody. "Hello, my name is Gandalf the Grey, yes, I know I'm only 14, and yes I know I'm not Grey..."
Or, "What is your name?" "Umm...Bilbo..." "Oh my goodness, were your parents hippies?" I think any girls name ending in the 'wen' , 'lorien', or 'adriel' would be pretty. Or even Elbereth, if you wanted you could say Beth for short. el B er ETH... Should I save up the money to change my name to Allorien? What do you guys think?? (btw, my real name is April)

sorry, but I think family names are far more important than attaching Tolkien fandom to a person's name. And what if the child doesn't even like Tolkien (not that this is likely)?
don't get me wrong, the names are beautiful. we might name a daughter Rose, but it would be after my grandmother. however, some people hate their families. and then you have all the freedom in the world. |

What I was contemplating was naming a daughter Melian, with the middle name Luthien, or giving her a normal first name and Melian as her middle name. For a boy, I really like the name Theoden, and the nickname Theo is fairly common (Theodore).

Yes, Melian and Elbereth as Beth would be good ones...I think Theoden might be awkward as a kid, but it would be a great name as an adult. Very powerful sort of ring to it. And how about Tinuiviel?
I don't know very much about changing names, Allorien, how much does it cost?

Well, if you just called him Theo all the time...One of the things I take into consideration when thinking of names is whether they have decent nicknames. See, I would never name a child Veronica, because the only nickname available, really, is Ron, and most girls don't like being called Ron. I speak from experience; one of my best friends is named Veronica. One thing my mother took into consideration is whether the initials spell anything, like EAT or ANT or BUG, etc. The only thing is, initials spelling something nice can be much better than not spelling anything at all. For example: one of my friends has initials that spell GEM, and if I changed my middle name to Luthien and married my boyfriend, my initials would spell ELK, which is one of my favorite animals. I'm rambling, so I'll stop right here, ok?

YEAaAah... and, if I changed my name to Fred, and married my invisible friend I would be... *drumroll* FRW! or maybe I could be NGL or TGH or something! Or if I had two middle names I'd be ENTR! Woo.

Naming my kids after LOTR characters? You bet your ass I am.
Arwen for a girl (my friend actually knows someone called Arwen- its welsh) And Phillip which will therefore be shortened to Pippin for a boy. Of course Elessar is another choice and I think its a bit like Ashley- you can use for both a boy or a girl. Mx

I know this will sound odd as its an elvish word rather than a name but I'd love to call my daughter Namarie (or Arwen which is the first choice I posted) I know it means farewell but it just sounds so beautiful!!! Mx

I think it's funny, hypothetically, but if any one really did it, it would be ridiculous. I have a few modest examples:
Arwen - can't seem to mind her own business. Turin - has nothing but bad luck. And wears his sisters' clothes. Gwaihir the Windlord - a little boy with a big bowel problem.
