You could always get yourself a free homepage with some ads on it, like via Angelfire or Geocities. Really simple and doesn't cost a dime. That's what I used to have, back in the day when I liked experimenting with HTML.

Self-doubt over whether or not a random monk actually liked your shirt? Tess, you are priceless.

Well, not GeoCities so much . . .

I sometimes get asked that too by people trying to sell stuff over the phone. I do not even deign such a question with a civilised response. Hmpf! >_<

A few weeks ago, when I called my cell phone company to drop some of my bonuses, the person on the other end referred to me as "Ma'am." O.o Quite a surprise; my voice has dropped and all . . .

Luckily I don't get that as often. Somehow my voice projects more years than my looks. I continually get mistaken for my mother on the phone. Sale calls are dreadful, though. But I don't mind them asking for my parents on the phone as much. That way it's easier to say 'they aren't home' and end the call.

It was my Green Lantern shirt, which is why I trusted him at first. It IS a cool shirt. I love that shirt.

The reason I feel dumb about what I said is that there was that split second of awkward pause after I said "Good luck with," and as we gazed into eachother's eyes, I suddenly realized that I, just having turned down his book-o-ancient-wisdom, was in no position to wish him luck in handing the thing out. So I went with.... being a monk.

That's like meeting someone and saying, "Good luck with... walking. It... It can be tricky."

I have a rather low voice. So actually it's a kinda miracle that they manage to mistake my voice for a child's. Though of course I am the child of my parents.
Also, there is a difference between asking for my mother or father and asking for my mama or papa. In case of the latter I WILL shoot them, no questions asked

You know what's worse than sale calls actually? Having to call a service desk yourself...
The horror!

Yeah, I've been in that situation before. When I first started to deal with sale calls and survey calls I always felt bad after having to turn them down that I wanted to say something possitive. So I often tried to wish them luck but it never quite sounded right either. Now I try to settle for 'have a nice day.'

Ouch! Point. I only got that once at the door being at least 25. Even worse, he asked if my mamie was home. I don't think I managed to hold back the pitying look before giving the standard reply and closing the door.

Oh, those are a category of horror all on their own! Have you managed to get the telephone mess sorted yet?

I think I did, but that doesn't mean anything. I'm sure they'll manage to come up with a new misunderstanding within two months

Mammie? Serieus? That's so incredibly sad!

Okay, but wait.

I thought women were all about looking super young forever.

Speaking of which, that reminds me of a joke!... for no particular reason.

Why don't they let donkeys go to college?

Indeed. Aren't we all, to some extent? I mean, why look at it from the negative point of view? If they asked whether your grandchildren were home, that would be worse, no?

Stereotypically, vain women are all about, as C.S. Lewis puts it, "wasting all their school-time wanting to be a certain age and then wasting all the rest of their lives trying to stay that age." Not about looking exactly like children for their entire lives.

Eärn wins this one. :/

Been a bit busy myself, and there hasn't been much to say either. But I'm alive. To a degree.

ENTMOOTIA CITY INQUIRER:

The traditional enormous Christmas tree was today lowered into place at its usual site on Entmoot Plaza. It was truly an impressive sight as the huge crane swung the gargantuan tree over the heads of the gathered Mooters in the square and as it slowly decended into the concrete socket the gathered populace exlaiming their awe at the spectacle.

Holy crap you guys... it's 29 degrees outside. O_o For where I live that is pretty much the absolute pits of winter... most winter days we're lucky to get below 60.

I love cold weather but I was sooooo not prepared for it to be this cold. Yesterday it only got down to about 40, and the day before that it was a balmy 79 degrees....

We have frost and in some places snow. Not here yet though, but it will come soon I guess
The only thing I'm worried about is traintravel... I don't want to get stuck 3 hours from home 'because of ice freezing the tracks' or whatever reason they have this year. Last year I managed to avoid most of that, but this year I won't be able to.
