How about you two find yourself a nice Star Trek thread to discuss and spare the people who haven't seen the movie yet from further spoilers?

May I remind you that I do own a phaser, one that comes with stun Ă*nd full power settings. Don't tempt me to use it on you.
Okay, so it works on batteries and the light is broken... But still!

But it still makes noise!

I GOT IN!!! to my second choice in courses: the MA in Applied Linguistics.
I didn't expect it after my recent rejection and some other professor calling Japanese 'a fun studies' (i.e fun but utterly useless), so I am very happy right now!

It's a bit early to say yet - but it could be a happy evening for a Norwegian following the Eurovision Song Contest tonight!

thanks
according to the person who came up with that term, i'm not comfortable about being called a girl and he's not comfortable being called a guy. as a couple, we're then a gay heterosexual couple.. although i'm not quite sure how that works myself.

I now own two anthologies! One of selections from Oratorios for Bass/Baritone, and the other is a collection of Sacred Music for Baritone.
Yay music! Since it looks like I'm going to be hanging on to my church job, it makes sense for me to invest in the books... plus they'll come in handy when/if someone asks me to sing at a wedding. One of them also has the bass solos from Handel's Messiah which I'm sure I'll be singing sooner or later. ... Of course I'm also out $44... O_o Ouch. Last edited by Tessar : 05-22-2009 at 03:30 PM. |

I've been playing Wii Fit yesterday and today
I didn't expect it, but it was fun. I wouldn't mind doing that regularly as opposed to going to a fitnesscentre... >_< And I seem to finally have a good plan for my America-trip (thanks K! >_<) so that is coming along too now. Phew, things coming together feels great!

I totally figured out how to do chord progressions today!!! Finally...
I mean I understood them in theory, but as far as sitting down at a piano and 'making up a song' based off of a progression I knew was impossible. But the other night I figured one of them out, and then everything just clicked for me. Now I can sit down and do impromptu songs . I am going to be SUCH a pop singer for the next few days . |

Well, after much prayer and many weeks of worry and wondering... I have an (at least temporary) voice teacher.
He's a person I know, and he told me a few days ago (when I was explaining my voice-teacher woes to him) that he would love to teach me a few tricks. So today I went in for an informal voice lesson, and this guy is AMAZING. He's just like my old voice teacher, and he had a few new tricks to teach me that really opened my voice up on the upper register! He wants to keep meeting, and I'm so unspeakably happy right now. It was funny, because while I was thanking him profusely (partially because he told me that I don't even have to pay him... I mean good GOD who does that?) he got a funny look on his face and told me that he had no idea what had moved him to invite me for a lesson except that he felt like he "needed" to for some reason. I'm putting that one down to prayer . He told me that he was really surprised how well I sing considering what I've told him about my voice, and that he thinks my 'problems' all boil down to having a slow-to-develop voice. He said he's had students like me in the past, and unlike most men who hit their peak around 35-40, I may not hit mine till I'm almost 50, but I'll probably keep my voice a lot longer. He said I have good technique, I just need to age a little more before I'll be able to make the sounds that my technique has set me up for. I'd be more dubious, except that it's almost exactly what my old voice teacher told me too... and I have a great deal of respect for both men, so I think I can trust them on that. He said that he agrees with my old voice teacher and thinks I'll be able to have a professional career, because he thinks I have the 'instrument' and he said that he's rarely met anyone my age who can 'hear' the way I can and who can understand and translate technique so well. Fingers crossed that I really do have what it takes. That would be awesome if I really can become good enough... All it boils down to is that I have to keep giving it 101%, pray like it all depends on God, and work like it all depends on me . |
