"The poet only asks to get his head into the heavens. It is the logician who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits."

"I guess if I wasn't myself then I'd be susceptible to my own charms " -Anglorfin, in the Self-hate thread. Taken out of context, but still funny.

"Just because you're home, doesn't mean you have to answer the phone."
and "In a world of bushes, I'll be a tree." I don't know who exactly said them, but I like them.

Two of my favorites:
"PEOPLE'S WHOLE LIVES DO PASS IN FRONT OF THEIR EYES BEFORE THEY DIE. THE PROCESS IS CALLED 'LIVING'." -Death, ''The Fifth Elephant'' "A marriage is always made up of two people who are prepared to swear that only the other one snores." -from "The Last Continent"

Sara: "These are my turtles."
Jeremy: "Whoa! They're big!" Sara: "I've had them for over a year. Their names are 'Peaches' and 'Mordac, Lord of Unholy Fury'. They're the same age, but I bought them at different times of the month." Jeremy: "Clearly." All credit is due to Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman for the dialogue to one of my favorite Zits comic strips.

Here is another favorite of mine
"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous people, for they may act their dream with eyes open and make it possible!" -T.E. Lawrence

'Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta!' - And those were the words that Elendil spoke when he came up out of the Sea on the wings of the wind: 'Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.' 'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh. Forgive me, fairest of all males of Entmoot...Back down, all ye other wannabe fairest males! Dunedain is the fairest!" --Linaewen |

One more Pratchett-quote, and I'll stop bothering you:
"Racism was not a problem on the Discworld, because -- what with trolls and dwarfs and so on -- speciesism was more interesting. Black and white lived in perfect harmony and ganged up on green." -Pratchett

dredging up an old thread which I think is very interesting and I don't want it to die
