good. Can I be Glorfindel? Just Kidding... but seriously, folks, 6 movies is the best idea. And you know, why don't we just use the books as our script and add in where we need to because JRRT went off on a non-dialogue tangent.
yep, great idea. but we'll need to change narration into description etc...
and i dont want to have things like bombadil in. bombadil is a delicate subject. he'd look silly on screen.

Is Peter Jackson your new mentor or something?

I don't think it's a good idea to start out the movies by taking things out because we didn't like them. Why don't we plan out other parts first, and come back to Bombadil later? We would leave a giant, gaping plot hole if we just took him out.

How about keeping the Old Wood but leaving Bombadil? Just as suggestion.

Maybe you could add Gandald or Saurumon telling one of there little flash backs, you know when they look at a book or something and speak of something of old. tom could be put in this way, just a 1 minute slot or something lol

dont pretend that Bombadil wouldnt be tough to portray nirv.
Falagar-exactly what i was planning.

omitting is not always a bad thing, its changing and adding things that'd kill LotR(and did).

Ok, I see what you guys mean now. Some things only work in books. However, I'm still not okay with the complete deletion of one of Tolkien's characters, but I see that you guys don't necessarily want to do that.

Edit: I agree Tom would be difficult, but I think we can do it.

What I meant before is we could plan other parts first, and then plan the Old Forest later.

How's this for a comprimise:

At Crickhollow, Merry explains that they could go through the Old Forest, and that Brandybucks had been going there for years. (Take these lines from the book.)

Merry, Pippin, Frodo, and Sam ride into the Old Forest, leading the pack pony.

The hobbits work their way towards the Withywindle.

They approach a huge, ancient willow on foot, leading the ponies. They start to slow down and stumble, and Frodo lies down next to the stream. Sam looks worried, and the scene looks suddenly menacing. Maybe we could have the sky change to grey, or an odd camera shot of the willow.

A sun-browned hand touches Sam's shoulder, and his look of worry changes to relief.

The hobbits ride out of the old forest, and onto the green, rolling Barrow-downs.

They come to the black finger-like stone, and stop for lunch. (The Barrow-downs scene continues as per book.)

Frodo stabs the creeping hand, and sings Tom's rhyme. As he sings, Frodo has a flashback of Tom rescuing them from Old Man Willow, and resting in their house. (Scene: the hobbits eating at the table with Golberry, and a fireplace in the background.)

Tom Bombadil appears shortly after Frodo finishes the rhyme, destroying the barrow and rescuing the Hobbits.

What do you think? The scene with Tom would be brief, and not "silly".

*sigh* well...it could work like that...
but i was thinking that the hobbits never go to the barrows or bombadil-but that gandalf mentions bombadil at the council...

If they don't go to the Barrow-downs, Merry will just have a normal sword.

I think we should stay as true as humanly possible to the book. Obviously some comprimises will have to be made. If we leave the planning of Bombadil and other very difficult scenes or characters to the end, then we might find it easier.

Also, if we open that door (of changing stuff that's difficult to portray), we won't be able to close it. I understand where you're coming from with Bombadil, so that's why I suggest leaving his planning to the end. If we do have to make a more drastic change, at least we won't be tempted to do it for the other parts of the movie.

Why thank you Hector. I'm lucky to have you as director. We're a team! *high five*

So do you want to leave Tom Bombadil for now? We could still use either one of our suggestions if we did that.

I would love to put up a position in my sig... but how do I know what position I am?

Also, have you guys discussed the songs yet? I would definitely at least want a little mention of the one Frodo sings in Bree. That's my fave. But in any case, if we want to stay true to the books, we'd need some songwriters to put all these words to tunes.
