Re: Lief's remark
Ditto! Believe it or not , I do have another life other than looking up hard quotes! I've been too busy to look this one up without any ideas, BUT I'm going to sit down in a little bit and do just that!

After the second hint, it was pretty easy...this is
Frodo to Gollum as he struggles with Sam at being caught..... Gollum collasped and went as loose as wet string. New one! "He should have been borne in honor into this city," he said. |

my qoute: 'I am,' said Aragorn. Fron the Fellowship of the Ring added later--- I have no idea why I gave you this. What was running through my head at the time... anyway greatest apologies to everyone ![]() ![]() |

Dead on!
Quite difficult and a little nasty because of that. That doesn't mean that sinchy is better, just a little moderation between that and impossible is preferable (In my opinion).
So this is from the Fellowship of the Ring, is it? I'll have to look for it tomorrow. Right now I can hardly think, much less search. |

LOL!!!
Fin, I can't believe you're stumped! Oh, well.....
SOMEone has borrowed my FotR book, and so I can't look this up. BUT, it seems like Aragorn says something short like this at Elronds house when Borimir is first introduced and meets Aragorn, and he doesn't believe who Aragorn claims to be. Will someone look there? |

Lief...
That's OK, I've got my book back and found it. Aragorn is talking to Frodo about going with him in the company of 9....
"And the Sword-that-was-broken shall be reforged ere I go out to war." New one: "...Then you will see Gandalf the Grey uncloaked." |

Easy enough.
He took a step towards the hobbit, and he seemed to grow tall and menacing; his shadow filled the little room.
And on to the next! He sprang to his feet and issued some orders. At once the men who were gathered round him broke up into small groups, and went off this way and that, vanishing quickly into the shadows of the rocks and trees. Soon only Mablung and Damrod remained. |

answer
"Now you, Frodo and Samwise, will come with me and my guards," said Faramir.
New one: Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and he was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars; and he looked at them and bowed and said, "All is now ready." |

Re: answer
That was a good one!
Then Cirdan led them to the Havens, and there was a white ship lying, and upon the quay beside a great grey horse stood a figure robed all in white awaiting them. And here's the next: A brief vision he had of swirling cloud, and in the midst of it towers and battlements, tall as hills, founded upon a mighty mountainthrone above immeasurable pits; great courts and dungeons, eyeless prisons sheer as cliffs, and gaping gates of steel and adamant: and then all passed. ![]() |

Re: answer
If I can find ROTK I'll answer this one <goes scrambling madly around the room searching>
There it is! Towers fell and mountains slid; walls crumbled and melted, crashing down; vast spires of smoke and spouting steam went billowing up, up, until they toppled like an overwhelming wave, and its wild crest curled and came foaming down upon the land. Next They have many ways of gathering news. |

answer
This is Beregond speaking to Pippin:
"And the Lord Denethor is unlike other men: he sees far." New one: Upon it sat a man so bent with age that he seemed almost a dwarf; but his white hair was long and thick and fell in great braids from beneath a thin golden circlet set upon his brow. |
