That would be Pepper, of the Them.

The middle name of a friend of mine is Arwen, and her sister's name is Galadriel. Apparently her mother's high school English tutor's teacher was the great man himself! Me jealous.

I just started reading this thread, so bear with this long post. Starr Polish mentioned her name was Allegra. Whenever I think of that name, I think neither of the allergy medicine nor of the musical term, but rather, I think of the ballerina with American Ballet Theater, the great Allegra Kent. So be proud, Starr Polish, to have the same name as that beautiful woman!

Earenya, I have the same name as you do, and I think Eruviel Greenleaf does as well.

You know, this generation's most common names are Katie, Elizabeth, Emily, Alex, John, Scott, etc. Our kids' generation's most common names will most likely be Feanor, Lorien, Varda, Tinuviel, Elanor, Rose, etc. That would be amusing. I think I'll go start an RPG along the lines of the off-topic posts about LotR kids...much fun. I think I want to legally change my name at some point (at least my middle name) to something Tolkienized. That would be fun.

And last but not least, my kitten's name is Arwen! Simply because I didn't want to name her Tinuviel and there is NO WAY that there is going to be another Galadriel in my house. (My nickname is Galadriel)

yeah, but it's ok cuz she's not the one that ends up destroying the world. In my opinion, it's really only the "Moonchild" that's over the top. I'd rather be named "pippin galadriel" than "Anathema Device," or practically any of the other "Good Omens" names for that matter.

No, but the world...*cough* nevermind about that bit
Anyway, you are definitely right, the worst bit is 'moonchild.' But still, imagine having to go through life being called 'Pippin Galadriel' (odd combination!) and having no idea why in your earlier years. I figure if your kids want to be called something after Lord of the Rings, it should either be a middle name or let them choose when they're older to change their name.
Speaking of Good Omens names, I wouldn't mind being named 'Warlock'

I don't know what I would name my kids, though names from middle earth are definetly choices. Personally I do want to get married and have kids but I won't do so unless I 'm positive that the marriage is stable. If I had to choose a name from middle earth for a child it would probably be a name from the silmarillion. That way it wouldn't be quite so obvious.

I'd name my first girl Galadriel or Eowyn, b/c they're both pretty names

Where did she say that? Because that's MY name!

I am going to have a huge problem with naming my kids, because I love so many names. I'll just have to get a lot of pets, I suppose

Ooooops I apologize, Starr Polish! I think I looked at the wrong post. I hate making mistakes like that! It has been duly edited.

No big.

I'm starting to think Beren would be a good middle name, or Ellesar...

I thought it was you, Eruviel, until I saw the name

The only LOTR name I would name my kids would be Sam. The others are just too cruel. Seriously Galadriel or Arwen? Middle names are OK.

I would give a daughter the middle name arwen or galadriel. For first names I might make up a pretty, normal-sounding elf name. They are extremely beautiful and some are not that far from non-lotr names. I think Elen is good since it means "star", I don't know what ending I would put on it though, or maybe I would just leave it plain.

Lorien is pretty. I would defidently consider it for a first name. Lorien Galadriel *Johnson* (put in a fake last name) would be pretty, although some of the more extreme names could be considered child abusse.

Eleniel: Welcome to the Moot! I agree on some of the more out-there names (such as Bombadil or Celebrimbor, which are nice names but not good ones to give a kid) could be construed as child abuse

i would most likely name my kids cool but un tolkien names, except i like evenstar for a middle name. i will name all my future cats after tolkien and other book characters. i have a growing list. including pippin and pipkin (watership down) just to confuse myself. perhaps nob and bob.
anyway also my grandma (a crazy cat lady, her and all the 9 kids are tolkien fans) named a ton of her cats things like gandalf. gandalf was my aunts cat and she refuses to tell my what its horrible fate was and i am beginning to think i dont want to know.
my name is pretty normal. it isnt katya thats just a name my friend calls me sometimes.
i love russian names so maybe my kids will be dmetri or marina(only that sounds like one of those boat places). or yurii or anatoli.
oh yes and computers. my computer in technology class was named viagra. i forgot how that happened. the mouse had a name too. my room has a name too. i name random things sometimes. my eyelash used to be katrina.

Hi Katya,
there´s nothing wrong with Katrina - but there´s nothing wrong with Eleanor (in my opinion). If I would have a doughter, I could imagine to call her Eleanor or an other elvish name. But that is in the decision of the parents...

Terry Pratchett, in an essay in the collection Meditations on Middle Earth, writes about a book-signing he did once in London. A young woman comes with her book...
Quote:
She handed over a book for signature. I asked her what her name was. She mumbled something. I asked again. . .after all, it was a noisy bookshop. There was another mumble, which I could not quite decipher. As I opened my mouth for a third attempt, she said, "It's Galadriel, okay?"
I said, "Were you by any chance born in a cannabis plantation in Wales?" She smiled, grimly. "It was a camper van in Cornwall," she said, "but you've got the right idea."
It wasn't Tolkien's fault, but let us remember in fellowship and sympathy all the Bilboes out there.
Well, I found this passage rather amusing. And I'm guessing most kids won't end up appreciating their obviously Tolkien names.

Funny. At least from over here. If I were her, I wouldn't be so thrilled .... Frodo wouldn't be too bad though.

In a baby name book I saw a Frodine(sp?) and a Froda. I also saw a Merry.

I wish my parents had named me Galadriel or Eowyn or something like that. Especially as I'm such a Tolkien addict.
