Oh, champagne! I should have thought of that *whacks herself*
And I'm supposed to be a waitress at events

Willow, are you done with school? Or still writing papers?

I won't be done with school till June 10ish. So I'm still researching for the papers which I will be writing in.. give it a couple of weeks. However, my professor did cancel class today to give us time to work on our term papers. Which I haven't, but it was nice of him to do that.

It's weird, I am housesitting for the next two weeks, and it's house/baby sitting. But the girl is a junior in highschool, so it's slightly awkward. We're close enough in age to be friends without it being very strange, but at the same time I'm supposed to be looking after her and her brother and to top it off, neither of us are particularly outgoing so... yeah.

First thing I did after getting my stuff in was clean the kitchen. The sink and counters needed a good scrubbing, and judging by the amount of crumbs that fell out, it is entirely possible that they had never cleaned their toaster. And their appliances haven't been updated in the last half century. The oven is usable, but the dishwasher is a roll-out. I foresee much handwashing.

So glad we keep the Teacup high tech!

We never had a dishwasher
Not clean places... I seriously dislike that. We have a cleaning lady coming twice a week in my building, but I always do it myself again, because she's not doing a very good job.
It's a strange situation.

Is the brother young enough to babysit though? I've done that too. The eldest was 14, the youngest 11. It really was a bit awkward since they really didn't need a babysitter. >_<

He's in sixth grade, I believe. The entire purpose of my being here is so that there is a legal adult in the house to take care of stuff like cooking and to be in charge in case of an emergency. They really don't need anyone looking after them, otheriwse.

As for the dishwasher, I would prefer it if they didn't have one. Having such an old, inefficient one is pointless, and if they were used to handwashing then they wouldn't have had the excuse of the dishwasher being too complicated to teach their daughter how to use.

The really baffling part though is that they just finished remodeling. The front of the house and top floor is brand new... but they didn't do a thing with the kitchen. That's supposed to be the first room you take care of in a remodel! Bah.

The pay is good though. And my aunt and uncle are right next door, so it isn't that bad.

Hehe, look at it as an opportunity: now you get to teach them the pleasures of cooking
Maybe their parents don't cook fresh meals very often. That would explain the lack of kitchen remodeling.
And getting money for being a legal adult sounds good enough.

Can I pour you something? Tea perhaps?

Strangely enough, they do cook. Their diet isn't very different from my own family's.

But it is a good oppurtunity to practice some responsibilty.

I would love some tea. I sit here and drink virtual tea while my body goes and prepares dinner. Fritata tonight.

*boils some water and shortly after pours Willow a cup of tea*

Fritata...? Never heard of it, though it reminds me of "frieten" which means fries.

Responsibility can be nice. It can also be a pain. Still, it feels great if people trust you.

*sips tea*

It's out of a cookbook full of Great Depression recipes, stuff that can be made using cheap ingredients, etc.

It's basically sautéd potatoes, peppers, onions garlic and optional broccoli with a mixture of herbed eggs and parmesan poured over it and then cooked till the whole thing is set. Looks like a lumpy quiche without the crust. It's nice because it uses a minimum of cookware and you don't really have to serve anything with it.

Dinner turned out quite nicely tonight. My aunt and uncle showed up to say hello just in time to join us, which broke down a lot of the awkwardness, since they know both of us and like to talk... and then they took us out on an art walk and there was pretty art, pretty music and gelato. So I'd say this is off to a good start.

Good morning Mooters! Sorry? It's still evening? Oops.

Ahem.

Good evening or morning according to time zone!
This Show we'll be interviewing a long missing old-timer... Durinsbane!

*cue applause*

So tell us, DB, what prompted such a long absence?
