Yes, of course, Hasty Ent! Jacques-Louis David. I like the term you used re: Neo-Classicism; "bourgeois porn," that's the bomb. I suppose in some cases it really is like that, now that you put it that way. But I had to post some obvious ones in here; I have been trying to atract people over to my thread. Sun-star can't post big pics anymore, she said, and hardly anyone ever comes here.

Would you be so kind as to please, please give us a new work of art to ponder, Hasty Ent?

ok, here's one that might not be so easy, so I'll give a clue right from the start: artist is female and still alive

also, I should mention that I cropped out a very small strip from the bottom where her name was, but that shouldn't hinder anyone from identifying the artist assuming s/he is familiar with her work

I have no idea who this could be, Hasty Ent. I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the contemporary artists. Perhaps someone else knows?

Barbara Kruger (b. 1945) is a photographer and guerilla artist from the United States.

Kruger's work almost always consists of black-and-white photographs with overlaid captions set in white-on-red Futura Bold Oblique. The phrases included in her work are usually declarative, and make common use of such pronouns as "you," "I," "we," and "they." Her creations are often critical of sexism and misogyny. For the past decade Kruger has created installations comprised of video, film, audio and projection. Enveloping the viewer with the seductions of direct address, her work is consistently about the kindnesses and brutalities of social life: about how we are to one another.

I love that so much; thank you Hasty Ent. The kindnesses & brutalities of social life... I'm going to check her work out online now; thanks for this.

Do you have another artist to show us? Or more works by Barbara Kruger?

This is a work of my favo artist...

The artist is a very wellknown and loved one in Sweden for his paintings of the home and his family. Born in 1853.

The painting is of his wife Karin and one of his children, Kersti .

I know; I'm clueless too, but it is a very young-motherly-love evocative watercolour painting. It had me thinking in my subconscious, after I saw it, well into my night of dreaming last night. That young mother's face... it is very beautiful, Grey Wolf, but I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with some of the mother-artists - I know of Mary Cassatt, of who's work I am a great fan, but this one particular watercolour has me thinking, still. Nice pick, Grey Wolf! I shall keep looking.

Then by all means, dear Sir Grey Wolf, please do! I look forward to more examples of this fine artist's' work. Not only does it enhance this thread, but also it helps us in our appreciation and furthur education on some of these excellent yet lesser known artists. And helps us guess, when it gets difficult to guess.

That's beautiful Grey Wolf; grazie molto! Carl Larsson. Thank you very much for giving us another example of his work; it's truly lovely. Watercolour, right? That's his medium? A Swedish artist? Do tell us more about him, if you like.

Correct indeed. and you are very much welcome.

He lived with his wife on Sundborn from 1888 and the house was later extended to house his entire family.
The house and it's surroundings were often used as subjects in his marvellous paintings. Now it's being kept by his descendants and tourists can visit the place.
Here is the link to that information.

and more of his work. With all his work, I think.

I am trying to save them onto my HD but for some reason I can only save them in bitmap. The jpg option is gone.
