I fear that we're losing our planet. Nobody seems to care enough about land development, pollution and extinctions.

Regarding the topic, I fear a lack of hope and nationalism in my country. It's already affecting me as well. We fear our government is being run by profit-taking politicians supported by ignorant consituents who sell their votes every election.

You are a bit lucky on your side of the world, BoP. It isn't as spoiled (including the culture and politics) as mine. Our biggest problem in the Philippines are deforestation and exploitation of water resources by dynamite and cyanide fishing (kills coral reefs). It is also quite difficult to get better support except from the educated minority since most people are poor. A sizeable amount of the taxes I pay go to the pockets of corrupt people.

No. But the nationalists do. They fear the economic controls (dependence) that might come with it. They are, what we call, the noisy few. Two very reliable surveys show an overwhelming support by the citizenry.

BTW, the Abu Sayyaf kidnappers are not terrorists. They claim to be to get support from the arab world but they are just bandits/rogues out for cash.

Personally, I think the US involvement has been quite adequate. We need surveilance training and equipment to better guard our shores from within and from without. So far, the support has really been with pinpointing possible locations and giving tactical support.

We are losing our world and that is indeed VERY scary. Every body seems to know it and nobody seems to do something about it. It's creepy how stubborn people can be in their ways.

And few things are more irritating that those individuals that, after you show them all the accumulated evidence still say, “there isn’t any prove of it,” and that the evidence is nothing more that “junk science.”

Such behaviour was to be expected if that person actually was profiting with the situation, but in many cases it is just the result of unwillingness to face an unpleasant reality, and that is scary.

It probably sounds really weird but I am afraid of spontanious combustion....I know it rarely ever happens but the fact that it does really bothers me...go ahead and laugh, I'm used to it...

I am also afraid of mind-controlling religions(sp). I'm not gonna name any because I don't want to offend anyone but one of my best friends sisters just joined one and her entire life changed, for the worst, they dictate what she eats, what she reads, whose allowed to be a bridesmaid at her wedding...it's scary to me that something that is supposed to promote faith and love and respect can have so much power over a single person.

Oh and spiders and crane-fly's, they're like spiders with wings.

No, no. It's interesting. I saw a doco a few months back on a theory that seemed to pan out. It's called the "candle wick theory", and basically it means that the reason the victim burnt was because they were wrapped in something that was slow burning, and the body fat acted as a mechanism to create intense heat. Contrary to belief, most of these victims lived alone, and their tvs and various plastics situated at the top (on dressers, etc) melted, suggesting a slow, intense heat as opposed to a quick heat - which would not generate enough heat to shatter bones. So I think as long as you don't live alone, and fall asleep with the cigarette, you'll be fine.
