The Balrog of Fangorn: The Final Blow

...and then in the the courageous onslaught by the brave Entmooters, the balrog staggered on his feet and he now knew the folly of his decision to get up that morning. He should have stayed in bed.

Gwaimir, the lord of the eagles, amped up the firehose and the flame of the balrog was extinguished.

"People of Entmoot and Fangorn, this is our hour! The balrog's strength is failing!"

Now was the moment for all the courageous women and men of Entmoot to sting the mountainous beast with their weapons, and they let forth a storm of atlatls, arrows, swords, battleaxes, slingshots, and popcorn.

The demon of the deep stepped backwards for now that his flame was vanquished he was naked and unarmored. The balrog's misplaced step sent him reeling backwards and fell to the ground and caused a mighty tremor in the earth and forest. All the brave warriors that had made battle with that monsters were thrown into the air from the sheer force of his fall and they fell back to the ground in a huge lump. Two warriors arose, Hector the Heroic and Jonathan the Just, went to the blarog to deliver the fatal blows from lightsaber and mithril-sword. And with that, the balrog was killed and the forest of Fangorn delivered and the civilizatin of Entmoot was restored to peace.

A debate arose as to what to do with the dead body of the balrog, but the debate went on so long that over time it was covered over by earth and moss and bird droppings, and the Fangorn dwellers came to call that large lump in the ground "Balrog Hill," and children planted flags and played games there.

Only one more detail need be noted about this story, and that is that in the square of Entmoot-Town, two statues were put of Hector and Jonathan. Though they had started as foes who persecuted one another, they had ended as comrades-in-arms who helped save Entmoot from the greatest evil it had ever known.

The balrog is an exquisite specimen and necessary part of the ancient Angband culture, one of the earliest state societies, and perhaps one of the last surviving links to this influential culture.

I also have a duty to protect the people of Entmoot. The Balrog attacked us. It may have been pissed because Jonathon and Hecyor woke it up, but that is not a good excuse to attack us.

However, the balrog's kin should have claim to his and all balrog grave sites, if they so wish, or they can give the remains to the Museum of Natural Mooter History

I think Gwai qould say yes, but I am woefully ignorant of The Silmarillion, not having read it. It's on my summer reading list, though!

Well, how wonderful to have such a big portion of Tolkien's world left to discover. I envy you

My recollection of Tolkien's languages is rusty at best, but Haudh sounds Sindarin; is it? Valarauka is Quenya, so (if Haudh is in fact Sindarin) it would be more like Haudh-en-Balrog.

My Quenya is, admittedly, very rusty, but:

Ambo Valarauko?

Or, less literally, but more in keeping with established Quenya placenames: Orovalaraukar?

I must question the description of this Balrog as an innocent creature, inked. Really? A Demon of the Ancient World?

I think Inked would argue that it is us who are not innocent, according to the balrog's POV

We shouldn't give it a Quenya name; Quenya is so very, very old. It would be like naming a hill in Attic Greek. Sindarin is a bit more approachable.

Well, I can't quite remember the last time I tried to kill someone just because they woke me up unexpectedly...

Gwaimir - it'd be more like naming it in Latin. Very old, but also rather impressive-sounding.
