It is in Australia. One could argue that you would only have a true democracy if everyone votes. Of course, since people under the age of 19 can't vote, this would be a pointless excercise IMO.

That was a great Clinton joke.

Or how about Joe Republican?

I still like Brownback, I just wish he wouldn't try to "cash in" on the opportunity to disagree with the President on something they would normally agree on. It makes no sense.
Don't automatically assume he is. And I'm really rather surprised that support for war, death, and bloodshed would be something that will make or break your vote.

Issues on the war will especially, because I think it is something we can't just pull out from, but we can still win. The obvious option is to send reinforcements. Many Republicans, and Democrats were saying that more troops were needed, this was before Bush said he was going to send more in. Heck, that was one of Nancy Pelosi's working points on bashing Bush.

Why the sudden turnaround among congresspeople?

Hilarious comic Hector!!

The turnaround is probably because the war on Iraq is very unpopular right now, and people don't want to be seen supporting it. Unfortunately, this position will make the situation even worse IMO.

Thats the thing though: politicians think that just because the war is 'unpopular', that it means Americans think we should stop it and pull out. That is not accurate, the unpopularity is with HOW the war was being waged, and EVERYBODY was complaining about Donald Rumsfeld's policies, and how Colin Powell's idea was so much better- and it probably was...

But as you can see, taking the position that more troops won't do just doesn't cut the mustard.

btw, thats the super-hilarious Mallard Fillmore strip, my fav.

Yeah, I like Mccain's stand right now he was quoted as saying (and this is a paraphrase) "losing a war is more important than losing an election".

I might vote for Giuliani, if Mcain doesn't get enough support for the nom.

Losing the war is MORE important than losing an election?
That doesn't sound right at all...

Ok, maybe it isn't that bad....losing the war IS more drastic than losing an Elcetion, I think is what he meant...

I'm paraphrasing...but the gist was that he'd rather look bad politically and win the war than flip-flop because it looks good to swing voters.

Good ol' McCain

But...he's not my guy.

If Hillary divorced Bill, she and McCain would hook up.

Here's an interesting idea:

Mallard Fillmore is suggesting that economist Walter Williams run on the GOP ticket!

I've heard Williams a time or two. He's pretty sharp. I can't see him fielding enough votes for the nom though...but a lot could happen in a year.

MESSAGE: STOP with the Reagan nostalgia already.

Hector: Haha! Awesome.

Australia: You have my utmost sympathy.

Barack Obama (as you may have guessed), is my favourite presidential candidate. If I was American, I'd actually vote for Ralph Nader, but never mind.

Barack Obama is great. I like Hilary Clinton too because she's very intelligent, but I like Barack Obama more because he isn't as right-wing as she is.

I don't agree with him about gay marriage, but I do like that he actually has meaningful environmental policy on climate change and cleaning up the Great Lakes (he is the Illinois Senator, so it's right in his back yard).

In other news, Australian Prime Minister John Howard is an idiot.

He said that terrorists in Iraq would be praying for Democratic hopeful Barak Obama to become U.S. president. Like I said Australia, you have my sympathies. But it seems you did this to yourselves as Howard has been in power for four terms! Whyyyyy? *cries*

Back to American politics, vote Obama, woo! Obama for President!
