You reasoned that one out perfectly Beren3000. Well done! I guess my earlier riddle got me to thinking about "fabulous treasures" that have been lost.

No. Consider what you know concerning the fate of all the stones. Then cross-reference that with two that might fit the words "on the rocks". Eureka! Riddle solved!

(it's elementary, my dear watson)

In fact these stones are “on the rocks”.
Those would be the ones from Annuminas (originally - presumably later transferred to Fornost, ca 861) and Amon Sul (definite transfer to Fornost in 1409)... those two went 'into the drink' at Forochel with Arvedui, so they were served up with LOTS of ice!

Exactly! The Stones of Annuminas and Amon Sul were lost in ice and thus could be said to be "on the rocks".

Thanx, me9996! I have a question, though, since this is the first time I've played thr riddling - do we have to make up riddles ourselves in our own heads, or can we post riddles we find from other sources? (Such as, riddles from online sources or from books.)

p.s. that was an actual question, not a riddle!

I have one. Shouldn't be too hard...

Found where not expected
Named after helping others
Warning is given when danger is near
Two great journeys, two great stories
Given by a friend and taken by a friend
In gravest danger proved useful.
