I haven't translated using a dictionary yet, but if I'm guessing right, why do you want to know what 'I love you' is in Norska, Lai?
(I might attempt to write that in svenska tomorrow) Hey JD, try to work this one out: Tycker du att jag ska har namnet "Härskarentmoot"? Det är bra, men jag tycker att du gillar inte det. I've found some similarities between Deutsch and Swedish: -"Himmel"(both I think) -"Arbeit" (German) & "arbete" (Swedish) Jon, I'm still working on the similarities between our two languages. Det finns många exempel. Last edited by Linaewen : 08-23-2003 at 07:47 AM. |

And JD knows why I should have that title. He was in much denial about my blatant influence at Entmoot. (In the Harry Potter forum) Quote:

Hey Lai, I know you love the word 'whence'. Do you know of 'wherefore' which means 'why'? Swedish 'Varför' is very similar, eller hur? Edit: Aj, and thanks OrnelÃ*rë Mistë. My friend and I are now doing the numbers 1-10 in various languages. (10 languages thus far). I used to know the Quenya numbers, but not anymore. Last edited by Linaewen : 08-23-2003 at 05:39 AM. |

Lin, I thought I could give you the Norwegian version of your sig from Håvamål:
Åpner du døra til ukjent hus, skal du være varsom, skal du være vaktsom, for uvisst er å vite om uvenner alt sitter benket der inne. Lets see if you can understand this (also from Håvamål): Middels klok bør en mann være, ikke altfor klok; fagreste livet lever den mannen som vet måtelig mye. Jonathan, I wish I could say yes to the Euro.

The first two verses of the Hávamál in Icelandic, which is as close as you come to the original language that Hávamál was written in. Or maybe this Icelandic is exactly the same language. I don't know, it could be. Icelandic hasn't changed that much in a thousand years.
Gáttir allar áður gangi fram um skoðast skyli, um skyggnast skyli, þvÃ* að óvÃ*st er að vita hvar óvinir sitja á fleti fyrir. Gefendur heilir! Gestur er inn kominn! hvar skal sitja sjá? Mjög er bráður sá er á bröndum skal sÃ*ns um freista frama. Quote:

Tack, men nej, jag kan inte förstår det. Well, a bit I could understand, but a lot of the words you used- I haven't come across the Swedish equivalents much. Not much in the news about prying around, maybe?

Quick direct translation by Arty: Middling wise should a man be, not all too wise; fairest life lives the man who knows moderately much. Jonathan, thanks for the verses. It's nice to see them in the 'original' language.

Thanks for the site with all the Swedish dialects! It was wonderful to hear the accents that I hear when I'm at my cabin again. [EDIT] Lin, I'll answer your PMs later.

You are from Belgium, aren't you.
I'm going there. Is it a problem that I only speak english and not french and this other language?

I am indeed.
It shouldn't be much of a problem. Most people know English as well. Some big cities get a lot of tourists so they're pretty used to people not knowing either French or Dutch. Where are you going?

'Tanis (Artanis): Thanks for the translation. It's a beautiful poem, but I couldn't help thinking there were references to 'clocks' in there.
