Happy Reformation Day

Mendelssohn's 5th would be appropriate.

Quite. Don't forget to play music by the most Lutheran of them all....Bach! Setting words by Luther...

Okay. I'm looking it up in Napster. And I'd BETTER love it if I have to hack through all this clutter. *hacks away some unwanted search results with his spam machette forged by Nurvi*

Good going TB...

Listening Assignment for the Weak, er...Week: Frederick Delius's "Eventyr" Tone Poem. You MUST turn up the volume at about 5 minutes into it...it is crucial that you hear the splendour...

I know better than to turn up the volume on a tone poem, whatever that is. (Something) Sprach Zarathustra is enough to teach me that.

Really though...Delius was not bombastical. There's just so much colour going on in that tone poem...it really is like creation itself. There's a reason Thomas Beecham was such an advocate of Delius...in this tone poem, you find out why. I don't know why it isn't more famous...

Is he in any way related to William Becham, who they interviewed on KUSC?

I don't believe he is...
He's a composer as well. I'm hoping to get his series Songs of Innocence and Experience and the play he wrote about the girl that has Tourette syndrome.

OOOHHH.....You mean William BOLCOM. Way different guy. I want to hear his Piano Concerto...which, incidentally, is paired on a certain recording, with Bernstein's Sym.No.2

Oh, sorry 'bout that. I never corrected the name in my Palm Pilot. You know how those names can get when you hear them on the radio. We need classical composers with rapper names. They're real easy to understand, especially if you're bad at spelling.
The 5x symphony speedy, by lil' Beethoven

Oh, I just heard this great one-liner from a kid at my school:
"Music is like candy: you throw out the rapper."

LOL Well, I was posibly looking for an alternative to Klemperer but I don't think I may have complained about his recording... it means too much for me: it was the version that made me discover the greatness of this work.

However I may have complained about Klemperer's Messiah. Some say it's one of the best for those that not like historical performances, but that's not my case.

BTW, I'm still stuck in Bach's cantatas and don't know when I'll be able to listen to another thing. I listen to some of Vivaldi or Häendel and very seldom to other composers outside of the baroque period...

No, no, no... I remember quite distinctly . I'll have to dig up that post for you...

I've heard that Klemperer's reading of the Symphonie fantastique is among the best. I don't doubt it; it's just the type of work he was good at, though it may seem strange to think about those two at first.

Well, you've been stuck for quite a while, I'd say...
I had a time when I was listening to Shostakovich's 4th and 10th on a regular basis, with some Strauss thrown in. These days I'm getting back into Beethoven mode. I was listening to his E flat minor variations for Piano, Violin, Cello trio. Small and obscure, but very good stuff .

You EDITED!....I just know you edited it out! I could have sworn from the treetops...grrrrr....

I distinctly remember telling you about the Nashville recording after you said your were dissapointed w/ Klemperer....

Ah well, here's something else that caught my eye:
