Is Gildor a thing? I'm thinking maybe it was said to Sam and Frodo in the Shire... in that one place.
Oh, it's definitely been too long since I've read my Tolkien. Hubby only told me the word. Not sure he even paid attention to the speaker.

Maybe you're right Midge. I was thinking this was from Rivendell, but maybe it's that meeting in the Shire.

Good gracious! Gildor and Galdor? Tis' neither i'm afraid. Your first instincts were on the right lines Val, although it's fairly easy to imagine Galdor saying it in the woods too, so good guess Midge

The speaker will be tough for me to get. I'm wracking my brains to remember the names of any Elves who Bilbo was talking to at the time.

I was going to try Glorfindel, but obscure he is not and I think Val about already exhausted all my other shady elves-options! Without looking up I'm stumped.

Ok, ill try some clues for the speaker
Pick one... Clue 1) Cryptic crossword (type) clue: Formers and latters... combine them!
Clue 2) Anagram: letters in no order...
Have fun! Last edited by Butterbeer : 03-26-2016 at 05:31 PM. |

You're really upping the ante on this one, BB. I like it!
I didn't look in the spoiler code boxes though. Do I need to - to have a chance at the clue? Or are clues found in the cryptic statements you give, and looking at the spoilers gives it away? PS: Interesting how the smilies show through the spoiler gray-out. I don't think I had ever seen or noticed that before. Smilies must be powerful!

Hard not to use powerful smilies when England came back from 2-0 down to win 2-3 away in Germany ( who are World Champions!)
Er, yes, there are two different clues, one is a type of cryptic crossword type thing, and since it's Easter has a chocolate theme partly- and the other an anagram. Both clues are contained within the spoliers yes Given i was drinking beer and watching the football at the same time, i hope they make sense? |

Really? First clue should not be too hard i hope...
.. an animal that rhymes with part of my entmoot name? Should be easy - Animal rhymes with part of my Entmoot name...therefore .. the animal rhymes with either Butt, , Butter or Beer That answer gives you the last three letters of speakers name - - - Please note, the spelling isn't quite the same but sounds the same.) First three letters of the speakers name - - - are the first three letters of this Famous Swiss chocolate maker / Brand... Add Chcocolate to an animal.. and you get an Easter inspired mash-up clue that names the speaker One final clue.. its not a chocolate bunny... that'd be chobun... |

Funny thing, I can't think of a single swiss chocolate brand right now. Bad, bad, me. Must be all the chocolate eggs I ate...
But the animal-clue might work. Haldir? |

I know my Belgian chocolate and since there's enough of that for me, I haven't had reason to take an interest in others.
So consider me once again stumped. Unless 'Tubdir' is some obscure Elf, because that's as far as I got on the riddles. But to be honest, I'm doubting it... |

Bunnidir!?
That can't be right. Oh wait... Sooo I suspect the sligthly more tolkien-sounding 'Lindir' will be the one you're after. |
