It's even funny in the Directors cut - when they come to the most hated scene in the movie - which I know they are aware that it is - all they talk about is the "controversy" of Arwen calling up the water. As if that is what the majority of people hate about that scene. If they're going to address the outrage in that scene - at least address the part that people are actually outraged by.

i like the Cast's comments on Disk 1, especially when Dominic MOnagen explains about 'Tig' and how Elijah believed it was a real game for a year! lol

I find Arwen's scene irritating, (for the reasons JD states, that she stole Frodo's thunder), but save my outrage for events other than disputes over artistic licence. |

I recently saw the ex. version, but on VHS so i haven't seen the commentary on it, and frankly i don't care about it all taht much. I did think that the ex. version was pretty good though, especially the added scenes in and after Lothlorien. I thought the argument between Aragorn and Boromir was really good and made the whole part from where Boromir tries to take the ring to when he dies all the more meaningful.
The added part at the council, where boromir tries to take the ring, and then a disembodied voice starts yelling at them, was in my opinion, really miscalculated, as the tone for the rest of the council is too relaxed. also what is the voice supposed to be exactly?

The 'disembodied voice' is that of Gandalf reciting the verse on the Ring in the Black Speech. If you'll notice, the sun goes dark just like in the book.

The extended version is now on DirectTV Pay-Per-View. The TTT fever must be revving up, because they also have a double feature: Rankin Bass "The Hobbit" and "The Return of the King" for $4.99!

My favorite part of the extended version was seeing Cate Blanchett smile.

Oh good, a PJ griping topic!
The Fellowship of the Ring was not very accurate to the books at all. My biggest problem was the removal of certain really cool characters. But I'll stop that here. It was a good fantasy movie; however, it was not the Lord of the Rings. Watch it as a fantasy movie with no connection to the Lord of the Rings, and it's a great movie; better with the Extended Edition.

I found the EE also better than the original! More jokes and more Hobbits, great! All the scenes are better, I found.

I got the extended DVD about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I have finally made my way through all the documentaries! Now to watch the movie with all four commentary tracks!

I think the extra scenes in the extended edition clarified the story. I almost wish I had seen it that way first, I would have been way less irritated with FOTR. Anyone else wish they would have cut a few minutes from the special effects monster scenes like the Watcher in the water and the Cave troll to add in some of the scenes from the extended edition?
I really liked Gimli's gift part. Totally adds more to his character. u

I most certainly do. Or maybe Tom Bombadil!
