yep, Mahatan, the smith.
Additional names for him from the Shiboleth of Feanor are Aulendur and Urendil. The source for the copper colored hair of some of the 7 brothers.

I'm new to this thread, but here are some questions:

-What do the historians call the time of the hiding of Valinor?

-What is the highest elven tower in Tirion called?

-Who foretold the coming of Earendil?

That's enough for today

Actually, Beren, this thread goes in turns... Meaning, after you answer a question correctly you ask the next question, and whoever answers your question answers the next, etc...
So I guess it's my turn.
But I'll answer some of your question.
1. The tallest tower is called Mindon Eldalyeva (sp.), I think?
2. I think it was Ulmo?

My question: Near what did Dior build his house in Ossiriand?

Sorry I didn't know about the turns thing.

Mindon Eldalieva is correct
But Huor foretold the coming of Earendil when he told Hurin on the day of Nirnaeth Arnoediad : "From you and me a star shall rise"

As to your question, Radagast The Brown, I think he built it next to the tree that Luthien was once imprisoned on (can't remember its name )

Any guesses on the "Hiding of Valinor"?

Rad: I think he built his place near the mound where Deneathor died back in the day. Not sure on the name, maybe haudh-en-Deneathor or somehting

Beren: I dont know

Oops. I mixed up Ossiriand and Doriath

Radagast, I think Dior built it next to the island where Beren nd Luthien lived after they came back.

Oh, man, I am sorry, dude, hold on. Remember the green elves who fought with the orcs before the Noldor came down, and they fought across Ossirand, until finally they were surrounded on a hill by the river Gelan, or whatever the north-south river that constitutes the western border of Ossirand was, and the king there was Denethor, anyway, they were surrounded, and Thingol could send no aid, and they were slain. It is that mound I am thinking of. Sorry to be vague, I am affraid this is really no better.,

You mean, the ilsand Tol Galen, as Beren said; and the answer is wrong, that's where Luthien and Beren (the real ) lived, not Dior - he had his own house.

From the Published Silmarillion
Quote:
At that time Beren and Lúthien yet dwelt in Tol Galen, the Green Isle, in the River Adurant, southernmost of the streams that falling from Ered Lindon flowed down to join with Gelion; and their son Dior Eluch*l had to wife Nimloth, kinswoman of Celeborn, prince of Doriath, who was wedded to the Lady Galadriel. The sons of Dior and Nimloth were Eluréd and Elur*n; and a daughter also was born to them, and she was named Elwing, which is Star-spray, for she was born on a night of stars, whose light glittered in the spray of the waterfall of Lanthir Lamath beside her father's house.

“What does the term american refers to” asked the boy, and the wise man answered: “Lets look at the dictionary then.”
As an adjective American is:
1. Of or relating to the United States of America or its people, language, or culture.
2. Of or relating to North or South America, the West Indies, or the Western Hemisphere.
As a noun American is:
A native or inhabitant of America.
A citizen of the United States.

Then the boy asked, “What is America then?”, and the wise man looked at the dictionary again:
1. The United States.
2. also the A·mer·i·cas. The landmasses and islands of North America, Central America, and South America.

Confused, the boy asked, “Does the term american refers solely to a us citizen or to any person in North, Central or South America?”
The wise man replied: “What do you think?”, and the boy answered: “It is clear to me that while the term american is used to refers to us citizens, one can also use it to refer to any person who is from that continent too,” the boy thought for a while and asked the wise man, “Am I right?”, and he replied: “But of course.”
The boy wondered, why is it that some people refuse to acknowledge the fact that the term american refers not only to US citizens but to anyone of the American continent?, but then sadly, the boy understood, that it is the calamity of ignorance.

Hmmmmm.... *thinking* What were you saying there? What's 'yield'? Why did you have to make it so complicated? *sigh*

You're correct.

It's Goethe's Faust of course.
The question is:
What is Rathlóriel? And what is it's significance?
Can you give both stories?
