The meeting of Gandalf and Thorin on the outskirts of Bree? I love that paragraph in the appendices where Gandalf says (from memory): "...all because I meet Thorin Oakenshield one night in Bree, a chance meeting, as they say in Middle-earth'. I probably got that quote wrong, but you get the picture.

You are quite right Cassiopeia, the two in question are Gandalf and Thorin. Jeesh! It took me longer to create the rhyme than it did for you to figure it out. Good job though!

A hidden jewel so precious,
unknown to evil most ancient,
betrayed by the child of the dark wanderer,
a beauty known to but a few.

Try this, it's kinda ambiguous but what the heck, you're a clever bunch!!

Galadriel's Phial, or the bit in Shelob's lair in general?

Could it be Idril, daughter of Turgon?

Ooh! Is it Luthien?

Riddles going:

Elf Girl:
Meager to the small ones,
Expected to the tall ones.
In the halls of Gondor great,
More will come when questions abate.

Elvedans:
A hidden jewel so precious,
unknown to evil most ancient,
betrayed by the child of the dark wanderer,
a beauty known to but a few.

I don't have my books here and my memory is very fuzzy but is the dark wanderer the dark elf who's son and wife ran away from him? His name started with E and his sons name started with M, maglor or soemthing?

They ran away to the house of Turgon (I think?) and the dark elf followed them, being the only person to find the way in at the time.

Blah that was very confusing and messy, it's almost a riddle in itself

Elf Girl: Is it Gandalf's explanations (following the defeat of Sauron) regarding the events that occured during or before the War of the Ring?

You are thinking of Maeglin and were close. His father was the dark wanderer and he was the betrayer.

Elf girl: Clues we have had so far: Small ones are hobbits, tall ones are men and it is something to do with meals in Gondor. It is not Nuncheon or the Daymeal.

Elf Girl: I really can't guess anything new. It's too hard, and there isn't enough information! I hope Mirahzi is right...

No, Mirahzi is not right.

Complicated hint: The thing that is meager to hobbits is food in Gondor. The tall ones are men of Gondor.
