Aaaaaaah, getting back into the swing of things pretty nicely. Went for a nice long walk tonight, and had a good voice lesson today . Apparently I've been trying too hard when I sing my middle notes, which would explain why sometimes I feel like I struggle to get them out 'properly'. My teacher also has me singing with a lighter feeling, but not sound, on my upper notes and that feels a lot better in my throat as well.

Progress is being made! Now I just have to hope that he'll either keep teaching me over the summer, or that I can set something up with one of the other voice teachers. I REALLY don't want to lose my forward progress, and I think taking a break for the summer would be a bad idea, vocally... I mean, not 'bad', just not 'improving' .

Congratulations on the taxes O_o.

Singing is funny. It's REALLY hard (for me, anyways) to get correct at first. There are a lot of bad habits and incorrect things I do... so those take time, and attention, to fix. Sometimes I'll struggle with one little thing for a couple of days (or longer) trying to fix it.

BUT then once it's in your muscle memory to do that thing correctly, it will start happening without you even thinking about it.

So yeah... learning how to sing can be extremely complex, but once you know how to do it... it's not as hard.

Yaaay... we fixed my chronic flatness by figuring out that I don't go flat when I sing low, and I can hear it easily if I'm flat when I'm high, it's in the MIDDLE voice that I have difficulty telling if I'm flat or not.

So all I have to do now is remember to think higher in my middle voice and I wont be flat any more . YAY!

Whoo! Finals done! Now I stop being a hermit for a week and then just one more quarter!

And now I know that I can turn out about 70 pages of decent writing in week without my brain going fizzle. Yay.

More or less.

It was by choice. Our final for creative writing was just to write a third short-story, no length requirements or subject promts, it just had to be finished and as good as we could get it without help. Anyway, the only story that wanted to be written was originally outlined as a novella, so I decided to squish it down to 40-50 pages and test my discipline while I was at it. It came in at 47 pages, and the rest was revisions for the other two stories, a paper and a writing heavy final. It was actually very satisfying.

Oooh, older ones or the current ones?

I used to read them a lot, even still got fifteen years worth of spidey comics on the shelf, but I've kind of lost interest in the modern ones and stopped following.

Well, one I know is from 1993, so pretty recent, and I'm pretty sure the other one is newer. I'll double check the date on it .

I wouldn't call 1993 recent, 'cause that's exactly where my collection begins. Them were some good comics.

About time then!

I started collecting Spider-Man comics for real in 1992 I think, and got well over a decade worth of them. He was, and still is, my favourite superhero and although I don't buy comic books any longer, I occasionally check out Spiderfan.org to read reviews of newer comics. Just to check out how Spidey's doing these days

I'm excited!! I really thought that I was going to be having to pay something like $3-4,000+ dollars if I wanted to do summer programs (they're called Young Artist Workshops or something... basically you go and study opera REALLY intensely for a few weeks), but it looks like I might be able to do some for right around $1,000.

Frankly I could POSSIBLY pull off the $3,000 stuff if I just about killed myself doing work/school, BUT with just a little extra work, the $1,000 should hopefully be manageable.

If I'm really lucky, and with help from my voice teacher, I might even be able to get into one this summer. That would be amazing, but I'm not going to pin all of my hopes on it... because I would need to do a recording of me singing two arias and get it mailed to them by April 9th. So my teacher may say no.

Fingers crossed, and lots of praying, though... it would be AMAZING to be able to get started with a program this summer.

Wish me luck... I'm recording for the audition CD today. Send a few prayers or good thoughts my way that I get a good take, and that my voice is good enough to get me in to the summer program .
