'Hobbits For Voter Registration'
My name is Jan Jarrell, username Rakshi. I am webmaster and owner of SANET, Sean-Astin.net. (http://www.sean-astin.net )
SANET has joined with Tolkien fans from all over the country to create the 'Hobbits For Voter Registration' initiative. Our goal is to get out the Vote for this year's U.S. Presidential Election. You can find pertinent information at http://www.sean-astin.net/sanetvote.htm. We feel our efforts are very much in keeping with Tolkien's belief that "even the smallest person can change the course of the future." Hobbits for Voter Registration encourages and makes it easy to register to Vote! Resources we offer include links to online voter registration sites. We do not support any specific party or candidate. Our only goal is to make it easy for non-registered voters to exercise their Constitutional right. We would be very grateful for any support you can give us. Please link to our initiative through your websites or journals. Thank you. What's that sun-star? There are good pieces to read in the Writers' Workshop thread? Well, let's go there and read them, then give constructive comment.

They're not much: a very cheap (my favorite price: free ) copy of vB (it's not that bad, actually), and two free websites.

I am part of a grassroots movement to change Federal Law to mirror state statutes regarding residency of convicted child sex offenders and predators. If a sex offender is convicted in state court in my state, he may not live within 1000 feet of a school, playground or daycare when he gets out and is on probation. However, if he is convicted in federal court, there are no such restrictions, and he may live as close to those places as he wants from the day he exits the prison.
We are trying to petition our legislators to sponser a bill that would require sex offenders and predators convicted of a federal offense to be subject to restrictions about how close they may live to a daycare, school or playground while on probation, just like ones tried in state court. I plan to post a letter that you can send to your senators and representatives, with the goal that someone will sponser legislation. Don't respond to this post, I'm going to start a discussion thread on the general issue, but I wanted to "advertise" the petition in the right thread. I'll post it here, but I've run out of time. Look back here tomorrow and I should have it up. |

An MST is a certain way of making fun of text or video in a light hearted way. It started with a television show called Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (or MST3K for short). The show is about a scientist who is doing an experiment on two robots to see how long it will take them to go insane from watching awful B-rate movies from the 1970s. To keep their sanity, they make fun of the movies by inserting their own humorous lines into the movie's dialogue. This is called "MSTing" because of the show's name.
Now, people use this technique to make fun of fanfiction by inserting their own lines into the text of somebody's fanfic. The story itself isn't changed, just interrupted. There's two links to websites about the original MST3K show in the Link section at the bottom of the main page. Thanks for your interest! I really appreciate it.

I'd like to encourage all Harry Potter role playing fans to visit Hogwarts RPG World, which is my new Harry Potter RPG site .
Unlike most of the crummy ones out there, the board is going to be dedicated to writers who are willing to actually make a good effort at writing a cohesive story. Please join in the fun! Hogwarts RPG World |

I've started a message board about MSTing, and it is also a great place to talk about general subjects. Humour is the main theme.
Check out Nurvingiel's MSTs Message Board! Read some threads, post some ideas, have a good time!

New Star Trek Message Board. Started yesterday... only 5 members currently... now taking enlistments. Most of the great names are still available (only 'janeway' and 'captainpike' are taken so far, among ST names).
