I like Christian too! 'Tis in my blood as a believer! But some Christian music I can not tolerate, like Christian punk. I don't like yellin' screamin' people no matter what the lyrics say. My brother listens to a lot of slipknot and korn and by the end of the song I have a ringing in my ears and my head throves. Plus it scares the dcrap out of me when he listens to songs that sound like satan screaming "if your 555 then i'm 666" (Which makes no sence anyhow). But slow, soft songs I like (If the lyrics are good, not evil) That's why I like classical and some Christian music.

SCHOENBERG! Why yes, I do love his music. In New York City, there is an art show of Kandinksy's and Schoenberg's paintings (he did a few), along with Schoenberg's music. I can't wait to go... When I do I am going to so many art shows, yay.

Heard an amazing piano concerto on the Radio by a man called Daniel Asia, written in 1994. Sort of sounded like Glassean. Also the Brahms second violin and piano concerto. I actually got to hear the Mozart Requiem live. New version, the Sanctus seemed particularly different (Mozart didn't finish it, the manuscript was entrusted to his three apprentices).

yep, its true. He's better than Tchaikovsky.
a lot of russian composers are better than Tchaikovsky.
in fact, out of the two most celebrated composers of russia, not one is Tchaikovsky. they are Shostakovich and Prokofiev.
Tchaikovsky is famous because of all his awsome ballets. especcially the Nutcracker.

The one thing I hate about Rusian composers is the fact that I can never pronounce their names!

thats it. I've had enough of this prejudice.
every single classical music lover I've talked with; hates Shostakovich,Mahler,Prokofiev....all the post modernists.
makes me sick!
and I have had ENOUGH OF IT!
I'm starting a "anti-prejudicy against post-modernist composers" team.
my team will go and raid those evil anti-postmodernists boards.

anyone interested?
btw, the only post moderninsts i dont like are Stravinsky's lot. but that is only because they're music is boring.

Jumping in, yee haa!

Hector and I were pming about classical music, so I thought I'd join the thread!

I think Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff, is so awesome! Who has heard it? I think it's a choral-symphonic work that rivals the greatness of Handel's Messiah (which I haven't heard in ages, so maybe that's not a fair comparison.) Carmina Burana has a lot of soloists, and probably more symphony action than the Messiah.
I'm not saying I don't like the Messiah - my dad sang in it once and I think it's great. I'm just comparing two great works that I think have similarities.

If you don't like boring music Hector, how do you feel about Strauss' endless waltzes? Or what about Wagner's operas? They were so long some of them had dinner breaks! At least he wrote Ride of the Valkries (sp?), but that might be an excerpt from an otherwise boring opera. You can guess how I feel about them.

In answer to the Dead Russain Composer Test..... (link above):

I am Dmitri Shostakovich! Enemy of Stalin, boy (er, actually girl) genius, and mocker of the Soviet System! Harry Potter stole my glasses and broke them. Jerk.
